Poor Snape; he dug his own grave with his infallible logic. Dumbledore is always so endearingly manipulative, isn't he?

Mrs. Weasley is quite vocal towards her own brood, but I agree that she would spoil Harry too much. And I can't see Harry being shoved into an unknown family. So Snape really is the best option. I can't believe I just said that. :o)

This is a great story, and I look forward to the updates!

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the story and agreed that the logic wasn't too tortured. Hope you continue to enjoy!

Having cast the Sectumsempra spell on Malfoy in HBP, Harry has to deal with the consequences. The story is written from Harry’s perspective and starts in the bathroom directly after the curse hit Malfoy and Snape rushed in and healed him.

I'm glad you decided to post on this site, although seeing that the story just went up put me in a bit of a tiff. If you're not sick or dead, then where are the updates we've been waiting for on the Pit? (You know, the other site). Did you figure I'm dumb enough to read this and think it's new?! Then again, I lost my bookmark and read chapters 38-41 of "Barnaby Rudge" twice recently. I wouldn't have known the difference if there hadn't been a weird pencil mark right near the end.

Anyhoo. I, for one, think Harry's acquiescence makes perfect sense. After all, he respects Dumbledore a lot and wouldn't be likely to argue with him. I can also see him wanting to face Snape, even if it results in a harsher punishment, rather than having Dumbledore do it. Of course, something making sense to me isn't exactly a high recommendation.

    Yes, I gave ten frogs.

Author's Response: Thanks for your review, I really liked your humorous comments! And thanks for the frogs as well, I like their croaking sounds....

I felt this scene was very well done. The dialogue between Harry and Snape is very engaging and true to canon. The caning itself was described enough to have us sympathise with Harry, but without going over the top. I think Snape had a tiny bit of remorse toward the end, and that's why he tried to give Harry some encouragement. I still don't like him. :o)

Author's Response: To be honest: I don't, either!

It's very touching how Ron and Hermione are there for Harry when he needs them. I wouldn't want to listen to Hermione's warnings all the time - she is kind of a killjoy - but once in a while she comes up with something useful.

Aw, they're going to wait up for him . . . I guess with no electronics, people need to grab entertainment where they can. Like the Amish.

Author's Response: "I guess with no electronics, people need to grab entertainment where they can." Feeling a bit cynical today? ;)

Snape discovers Umbridge's preferred method of detention.

Now that was just bizarre. We both responded to the same challenge on the same day . . . after it's been sitting here with no takers for who even knows how long. I feel like I should try to get some mathematical meaning out of it and play the lottery. But I'm too lazy. :o)

This was really good, both in mechanics and actual storyline. Much better than plenty of fics I've read that DID have spellcheck available! Funny, when Snape first heard the distant roar, I thought it was that stupid lion hat of Luna's. You ended it in just the right place, leaving everyone guessing what would happen next if it wasn't a oneshot. Great job!

    Author's Response:

    Did we really?!
Hahaaa, I was just browsing through the challenges so that I wouldnt have to start packing. hahaaa :P

I'll have to go read yours then!

Thank you! I'm not a native speaker of English, so I usually misspell loads of things and rely on Word to fix them for me.

LOL, Luna's hat. That would've been awesome.

What if when Harry sees Snape's memory, it isn't the infamous "Mudblood" memory with the Marauders? What if it is one of the memories that Snape gives to Harry before he dies in DH, and Harry finds out about Snape's deal with Dumbledore to protect him?

Aw, you dedicated a story to me. *sniffs* Thank you.

I really enjoyed reading this, which is a blessing, since I had to read it about thirty times in order to beta. :o) I don't usually like the Snape-is-Harry's-father plot device, but it's not like we had to deal with it for long!

I also really liked the sweets described by Ron, particularly the licorice bats and flying chocolate witches. It made me hungry . . . though, as you know, I'm always hungry lately.

    Author's Response:

Thank you for being the most incredible, efficient, quick and patient beta reader in the world. I don't think I could beta for me, I'd drive myself round the twist! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It means a lot to me, especially when you're such an amazing author yourself.

I have to admit that the Snape-is-Harry's-father plot device never used to appeal to me either and yet it's managed to worm its way into a few of my stories now *sighs*. I like the ones where Harry is really little and cute and has lived with Snape all along, but I've never really liked the ones where it's just a sudden revelation when Harry is a teenager, like mine always are. Odd.

I wrote about the sweets when I was absolutely starving myself, I think it shows...

*hands out licorice bats* mind the wings, I think they're a little chewy.
