Being sent to stay in a psychiatric ward at St. Mungo’s isn’t exactly the most enjoyable way to spend a summer, so naturally, Harry’s pretty angry when he finds out that’s his destination, regardless of whether or not it might be good for him. Facing a full summer of being cut off from the Order’s plans, Harry’s even taken to envying Snape, because at least Snape knows what is going on. But when Harry arrives at St. Mungo’s and discovers that a fire has changed his destination from the teen ward to the adult ward, everything is turned upside down. Enter his roommate - suicidal, depressed, and none other than Severus Snape. They are both willing to bet that their summer will be a total disaster, and maybe it will be, but even the surest of gamblers are not always right.

Wonderful chapter! I like the internal struggle of Severus-- moments free from depression are so often fleeting, then it's hard to find some momentum to keep going.

    Author's Response:

Hy Quynce. :) It is awesome to hear you enjoyed the chapter, as well as Severus' internal struggle. I've been trying really hard to portray the oscillating nature of depression and recovery from a suicide attempt.

I never want to harangue an author for chapters, but it is hard waiting from week to week for this story. I love the narrative shifts between the two characters. I like adolescent, mischievous Severus and this more adult-but-broken side as well. It's also great to get Harry's more resilient perspective.

Author's Response: Hello, Quynce! Well, a little bit of haranging for new chapters, as you put it, can be a nice indicator of the enjoyment level readers are getting from a story! I am so glad that you are enjoying the story, as well as the overall style with the narrative shifts. That has been a fun challenge to write. Thanks for your feedback regarding the characterizations as well. Always nice to hear people's impressions! I'll keep those weekly updates coming. Cheers. :)

    Ack! Terrible...cliffhanger...anticipation killing me.

Author's Response: Yeah, I'm evil haha! Thanks or the review!

Harry Potter is located in London in the dead of night. How exactly did he end up there, and what has he been doing? Well, any kid with half a brain knows not to talk to strangers.

I'm really enjoying this very distrustful, eager to be in control version of Harry. Severus is a lot more cannon, but with more humanity. I like all the little touches that make the characters seem more realistic-- Harry's hostile inner monologue, Severus avoiding Harry even though he should be seeing to his injuries, etc.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like my characterizations. Your description of them was exactly what I was going for, so I guess I got it right :)

Typically, I try to refrain from demanding chapters-- I worry it seems childish and rude to ask for more from someone who is doing a wonderful thing for free. But with that cliffhanger?! Argh! Want chapter! See, I do sound like a toddler....

Author's Response: :) Feel FREE to demand all the chapters you want, because it means you like my story, and that is very encouraging. Don't worry, there won't be a long wait till the next chapter.

I like that Snape keeps making mistakes around Harry because he has so many internal issues with him, but that Snape is also rational enough that he is realizing that they are mistakes. It makes him very human that he acts, then has regrets and sometimes the guilt means that he doesn't do what he should and go after Harry to apologize.

Gah! How could it *not* end there? You write more words after it in the same file.... Really, this is just evil. I make it a policy to not demand chapters, but the author brought this on herself-- next chapter, please!

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing! Yes, yes, I am simply evil personified. Worse than Voldemort ;p. I WILL be posting as soon as possible, but, unfortunately, the cite is preventing us from posting right now due to the recent issues, so hopefully everything will be cleared up soon. :) Hang in there!

Title: Chapter 12: How to Save a Life 16 Jul 2014

Wow, it's a great follow up to terrible cliffie. I feel compelled to mention that some of the other reviewers of this story are *really* harsh; I hope the author doesn't take them too much to heart. The story has been developing very well. I like that Harry is so deeply conflicted about Snape and about living in general. I like that we are experiencing Severus's personal conflicts as well-- I'm wondering if he's going to start hovering around Harry? Well, there's bound to be some stress response to something as overwhelming as a suicide attempt.

    Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! Don't worry, none of the comments have been rude, just mainly contructive criticism or opinions. I'm not bothered by that :) But thanks for the vote of confidence; I do appreciate it. I'm really glad you noticed and appreciate the conflicts in the story, as it is difficult to get right. Yes, Snape will definitely be more attentive to Harry, though I wouldn't call it hovering. Stick around :)

I like this chapter a lot: some present, some past, slowly building trust...and behold, the Owl of Destiny! Love to see Hedwig join the group.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. I loved adding Hedwig to the cast; it was really a spur of the moment decision (those are often the best ones).

Title: Chapter 8: In the Dark Room 04 Jun 2014

Great chapter, great story. I love the internal side to Harry-- his distrust, intelligence, fear. With Snape, I like the human touches-- he's harsher than he means to be, then he's clearly shocked and worried. And the author doesn't just state those things, they are revealed in actions or the way the character speaks. It's great.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! It's really good to hear that you think I've done a good job writing my characters.
