Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...

Author's Response: Thank you! Yup, baby steps. Hopefully next chapter things will pick up a bit on that front. I'm glad you like Kallie. She's looking to be a (relatively) major character in this, just 'cause I like her, too. She reminds me a bit of Mrs. Weasley, if you turned her into a house-elf. Ewwww Chinese exam. I'll let you know how I do :-)
Harry is so confused! I'm loving reading his slow progression from what he was at the beginning of term to what he is now - he is SO in denial. Anyway, I'm really glad you updated (that last chapter was a cliffhanger and a half) and this chapter surpassed everything I'd hoped it to be. I think you got Harry's puzzlement about why everyone was angry with him spot on. I'm looking forward to the next chapter already! Author's Response: Thanks!!! Much fun :-) I'm glad you liked this chapter so much. I liked it, too, to be honest. :0) <=bunny smiley
Author's Response: :-) Thanks!! Yeah this was definitely a happier chapter than not. :-)
Author's Response: Yup, Twelfth Night and Macbeth. Twelfth Night and the Taming of the Shrew are my two favorite plays. I'm glad you like this chapter. I'm sorta getting the impression that not everybody does. :-( Thanks for the review!!
Author's Response: Yey!! Glad you like!! Rhiannan
Author's Response: :0) Yey!! Glad you liked!! I liked that scene, too - writing it, I mean. I feel like asking 'won't or can't' would help in a lot of situations, with Harry.
Desperate to escape his guilt and nightmares after the third task, Harry transforms into a hawk by accident and ends up breaking both wings and suffering partial memory loss. He is found by Snape, and while the professor nurses him back to health discovers the truth about Severus and who are really his friends and enemies at Hogwarts.

Dumbledore really is very self-centred in this, isn't he? Only seeing what he chooses to focus on and the things that are forced under his nose. Having said that, that is certainly something canon Dumbledore can be throughly accused of as well and it's interesting to read your spin on it - I'm curious about how Dumbledore will react to Harry when he finally reappears and vice versa. Snape and Harry-the-hawk's interaction was lovely and very cute! I'd love to see more of that! A potion of communication? Now that sounds interesting... I look forward to reading about it! Author's Response: Yes, Draco always seemed to me like the sort of person to try and weasel out of trouble by blaming it on others, look at what he did in Sorcerer's Stone with the dragon incident. But McGonagall wouldn't let him get away with it either, and neither will Severus. I figured the multi-layered punishment was needed, to reinforce their crime on different levels. As for Crabbe, Severus is smart enough to recognize genuine regret and if the boy hadn't come back to revive poor Harry, he might have died. Sev's a great actor, knows how to play his audience for amximum effect, which is what makes him such a good spy. As for Dumbledore, yes, I have played him rather close to canon, recalling that he left Harry virtually undefended in book five against Umbridge and Voldy after being thrown out. he could have at least made sure harry knew he supported him, but he didn't, not until Harry flips out after Sirius's death and only then does he tell him that he was sorry. When harry finally comes back, there will be one very surprised Headmaster, and one angry young wizard, among other things. You will, I've just finished the next part, I thought it'd be neat for them to be able to talk to each other.
This is a fantastic story so far and I think you've got Harry-the-hawk just perfect - the right combination of wild and trusting-because he has to. I like your Snape in this too, especially his antagonistic thoughts about 'Potter' while unknowingly caring for him! I can't wait for your next update. Author's Response: Yes, i think they ought to be more than just two lumps that follow Draco about like goons. And Malfoy is just that kind of person, doing things just because he feels like it or his pride or whatever is hurt. I'm glad you like my hawk harry it was hard to find the right balance for him in the beginning, and as the story goes on, he'll be getting back more of his memories as well. Yes, Sev has no clue of the irony of his actions, or his thoughts, and when he finds out . . .*smirks evilly* My next update is now posted.
I definitely like your Hagrid in this - he's much more believable than most and the 'mentoring' relationship he has with Severus is sweet. This chapter was fun to read and I'm looking forward to more! Author's Response: Coconuts? Like in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? LOL! I loved writing Hagrid that way, and I think Severus needs someone like him to remind him when he lets his temper get the better of him that he needs to calm down and take a look at the situation rationally. I'd say Hagrid understands Sev better than most because they have similar pasts--they've been down on the ground, spit at and mocked for their heritage and pawns and mistrusted--I think that's key when developing trust, that you cna relate to the other's fears and understand what motivates them. Dumbledore, brilliant wizard though he is, just doesn't get it, since he was never micked or derided as a child or an adult, he was always presented as a great and wonderful hero, and I think that's why sometimes Severus resents him for trying to tell him how to feel towards Harry. Severus must be saying--what the hell do you know about resentment or hating somebody's guts because they made your life hell for years and no one did anything about it--especially you? And then you tell me to just forget it? Right, old man. Anyway, the next one's up and you can get to see a bit more Harry/Sev bonding and more of Sev's past. Bring a tissue! |
