Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...

- Wow, so I read this entire story this morning and I'm absolutely blown away.
I've never read such a defiant Harry before and I must say you've done a marvelous job with it. His mistrust and fear is heartbreaking and at times I find myself frustrated with his inability to care about himself and can't wait for Snape to finally break him down.
I'm really looking forward to the eventual acceptance of someone caring about him. Do you think you'll ever allow him to be so comfortable with Snape as to let Snape touch him? I'm such a huge fan of Snape comfort, but Harry is in such an impossible place right now it's hard to ever imagine him hugging Snape or ever letting all his fear, pain, and misery out.
In the meantime I'm thoroughly enjoying Harry's journey. Your characters are so different from anything I've ever read before, and though I was a little unsure if I'd like your version of Harry, I find myself becoming more and more of a fan with each chapter. I really like how Harry has friends in both houses too. It brings another dynamic to a brilliant fic.
