Rather than allowing Harry to stay at Diagon Alley after he blew up Aunt Marge, the Ministry sends Harry back to the Dursleys. Harry returns to school after a terrible summer, to find that he's not the only one with this kind of secret. A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.

I love how you've got poor Harry tying himself in knots over what Snape said to him (I did something similar in WtBCI; it's something that abused kids do- they can't trust the most simple, innocent meaning of words/actions). I'm looking forward to seeing how Snape will set him straight, particularly on the discipline issue

I love the interaction between the trio; Hermione and Ron's lack of finesse in discussing Harry's medical examination is really in character, considering their age, and Harry's reaction is very believable. I loved Snape's reaction to the results, particularly the half-hidden kindness in his reassurance that no-one would be told and Harry's lines.

The discussion between Severus and Remus was brilliantly written; very in character, very believable and the plot which is coming to light seems to be one headed interesting places. Great work

I love how you are portraying Lupin; he was always depicted as the most thoughtful of the marauders and the subtle manipulation he shows in this chapter is oringal but still feels in character, especially in the light of his time with the werewolves. Vernon and Petunia were suitably horrible and I loved Severus' quiet strength and the way he plays along with Lupin automatically, then turns on the thumbscrews when he and Petunia were alone.
Author's Response: Lupin does that creepy-friendly thing with Pettigrew in PoA. I thought it was scary as anything. And the fact that Lupin is physically slight but really, really strong would just wig Vernon out all the more.

Very cute chapter; I love the poetic irony of Harry not realising just whom he was speaking to about his abuse (Dursleys are definately in trouble; Sirius didn't have much self control to begin with.) Bit surprised at Sirius licking Harry but, then again, he was a bit screwy after Azkaban...
Author's Response: I figure Sirus has been hiding out as a dog so long, he's gotten the behavior down very well. And a dog licking is the equivalent of a human hug. Then too, Sirius was a bit screwy even before Azkaban :)

Loved this chapter; I really like the background you're giving Snape (his 'bloody effing brilliant' is both hilarious and believable) and the interaction between him and Harry is beautifully written, giving clear implications of what's going on in Harry's mind but not over-egging it. Harry's reaction to the news was very believable and a great plot device

I really like the way you're portraying Harry and his thought processes. Showing Harry acting like Veron and then immediately being ashamed was a nice touch, as was the mental aside about Snape's behaviour in the previous chapter being how people treated 'normal' children

I really enjoyed the interaction between the characters; poor Harry is so overwrought that he's overreacting a lot, which is completely natural in the circumstances, and I love the dry common sense Snape uses with him. Hermione and Ron's interaction with Harry was similarly well written; I love their keen, innocent optimism

I loved the letters, very cleverly written, and the conversation between Snape and Harry was very interesting, with all the undercurrents and misunderstandings. Loved Snape's comments about pumpkin juice; I've always thought that the reason why he is so strict is that Potions is a disaster waiting to happen...
Author's Response: Yeah, I alway imagined Sev praying to the gods of chem teachers and potions masters "I know one day a student will blow up my lab, but please don't let it be today."

Intreging beginning; I really loved how you've rationalised Severus' behaviour towards Harry. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Author's Response: Thank you, Morgana. :D
