Darkness swallowed Severus's childhood and is threatening to engulf Harry's. Will the man recognize himself in the boy before history repeats itself? [Generally short chapters due to (almost) daily updates]

Author's Response: Thanks for the review ^^ Yup, we're heading towards the end-game; I hope you'll enjoy my version ^^
I'm definitely enjoying this fic. Each chapter gets better and better! Thanks for updating! Author's Response: Thanks for the review: I'm glad you're enjoying the fic ^^ . Yes, Harry, in particular, rather lacks cool calculation although he does consider his options more carefully than he does in the canon, so Severus and Slytherin have had some effect! (With Hermione, the effect is more pronounced; she was always the most cautious and calculating of the trio but, in Gryffindor, these traits were undervalued, whereas, in Slytherin, the ability to plan is considered an asset and, therefore, nurtured.) Eleven year olds often feel invincible, so they don't usually judge the degree of danger accurately.
He has to do everything with style (and swagger)! Author's Response: Thanks for the review. Yup, I think the best adjective for Draco is 'flashy': he loves to look impressive. However, I think when he realised just whose sword he has been showing off with, he might lose a little swagger lol!
Draco's reasoning for having Gryffindor's sword was amusing as well. Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I just had to squeeze that quip in; hot-tempered, influential Lucius tends to win most of his battles with Albus, so I wanted to give the headmaster a chance to win a verbal duel lol!
Author's Response: Thanks ^^. Its sad but I thought that, to get both Dumbledore and Severus out of Hogwarts all night, I had to plot something significant and a magical murder in a muggle street, which left the other muggle spouse highly vulnerable, was potent enough to ensure the Headmaster and Head of Slytherin's absense and, as Hermione is the only muggleborn in Slytherin, her parents are in the best fit.
Author's Response: Thank you. I thought that Severus really would strangle Dumbledore if he made it 50 points and, because Harry, Ron and Hermione hadn't lost all those points for being out after curfew/ irritating Severus, the differential between Gryffindor and Slytherin was narrow enough to allow it.
Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I really wanted to end the year on a hopeful note and I'm glad you liked it. People don’t fit into labels, or neat little boxes. Can you ever say someone is really just smart, loyal, cunning, or brave? Never a mixture? Always a definitive line, thick and black, clean cut? No of course not. The sorting hat stops sorting. What effect will this have on Snape and a young Harry?

Author's Response: Hm.... Draco is up to something....:D Thanks for reviewing! Harry runs into Snape while trying to find the definition of home, and finds himself drawn into Snape's summer Order task by the headmaster, looking for a location outside of London. Along the way, he and Snape learn a few new definitions themselves.

I really enjoyed that bit about Harry's dad keeping him safe from the boogey man, and Snape having the automatic reflex to card his fingers through Harry's hair. I can also see the bit of Russian lineage (the pale skin and sharp features are more typical of Russians than the English) Author's Response: Sorry 'bout that. Compared to some of the other 'tortures' one can find in other stories, I thought it wouldn't be too bad. Something a demented ten year old would think was a power trip.
And thanks :)
Even through the idea is idiotic beyond words, I guess I have to remember that Harry is a typical horny teenage boy, even if he's the Boy Who Lived. I'm curious as to how Snape will punish him. Hopefully he'll get creative... Anyways, I really enjoyed this chapter, especially their conversation at the cafe and Snape's hint about Lily. I also like that you slipped in a variant definition of home. Very clever. |
