About me:

A few things about myself:

   1) I am Canadian (cough ... and proud of it)

    2) I absolutely love the readers on this site, and hearing their thoughts/questions either by reviews or messaging makes me simply dance.

   3) I have a pet newt. He is so old it's not even funny. Yeah, 14 yrs. Pet store said 3. Good thing I like him.

   4) Lastly: I got into writing fanfiction here for two reasons.

           A) The first is that I love to write. And not only that, I wanted to learn to write.

           B) Potions and Snitches is a great place for learning.

Thus - I've made a lot of mistakes writing, but because of how  awesome the reviewers are, I've learned from those mistakes and gotten better. The kindness of the readers has kept me coming back time and time again, and really helped me improve my writing. At this point I'm now working on an original novel, meaning fanfiction has taken a back seat. That was always the goal, and I hope one day to take my writing somewhere besides just the internet and my friends' bookshelves.

     Well, that's all folks!

    - Whitetail

P.S. I am on fanfiction.net, but my pen name is LittleWhitetail, rather than Whitetail.

Current Project: Jan 1st 2016 update - Writing is going quite well. Still taking a break from fanfiction. Not promising any new P&S stories, but it isn't impossible. My original novel is slow but progressing, and is into some of the final drafts. Had some success in the past year - got a short story published! If you'd like to read the story, check out Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Possible. The story is called "The Pivotal Moment". Also, on a fanfiction note, I still read reviews (but am slow to answer). Also, feel free to message me - questions, concerns, anything. I do love hearing from people here. Cheers!

Haha, feed him some bacon and he'll be your Friend for life ... loved that. Although Petunia seemed oddly fine about Snape showing up. I would have thought she would be horrified he had found her considering she blamed him a fair bit for taking Lily away. But perhaps I will find out why later ... so onwards!

Author's Response: She was just relieved a wizard had arrived to sort things out. I wanted everyone (well, not Vernon) to be a little nicer than canon. Maybe there was not such a mega falling out between Petunia and Lily, so she's just a little more tolerant of magic and not as hostile towards wizards. I obviously failed to convey that picture!

Severus has a coincidental meeting with a very open young boy. They talk - mostly the boy. Afterwards he can’t get the boy out of his mind. Entry into the Holiday Fic Feast of 2013.

Oh my, how lovely! Wow, the scenes were drawn out so beautifully and delicately. I felt like I was there, and somehow you managed to capture perfectly the melancholy feel of the season for both Harry and Severus. I loved the image of little Severus in his ratty clothing at the back of the church, and Lily's description was simply wonderful. Harry was perfect too. This is definitely my favourite Christmas story so far this year, and I've only read the first chapter! Excellent ... now onward!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) I loved this chapter too, and at first I thought about ending it with the first chapter and just do it as a oneshot, but then I figured I wanted to know what happened next, so I write the other chapters as well.

Wow, again, wonderful. I loved the hesitant questions of Severus' directed at Dumbledore, and you can tell that he is so conflicted over the whole situation. You described perfectly his emotions over Lily, that wish for some part of her, and yet that fear that he could not bear to be near anything or anyone that reminded him of her due to how much he loved her. Great work! Something about your writing style just catches me, and that I find is a rare thing in fanfiction. It isn't underdone, or overdone. Lovely.

    Author's Response:

Thanks! I was afraid that he would end up being horribly out of character though I tried making him his usual sort of gruff and "I don't care about Potter" - self. I'm glad you think it is not too much! :)

BA HA HA MERRY CHRISTMAS SEVERUS! Oh that book was just simply hilarious. And a broom ... my, who could it possibly have been? If it wasn't Albus, Minerva perhaps? Or is there really a Father Christmas after all? Oh gosh, I just loved how paranoid Severus was as he was berating Albus and calling all the decorations objects of questionable nature like they were something deadly ... that was a stroke of genius.

Author's Response: I had fun writing this chapter too! And I really do think that is how he would react ... unless he decided to blast it all away ...

Oh of course ... Albus Dumbledore would be cousins with Father Christmas! Hmm ... so the seed is planted in Severus' mind. With all luck ... Harry will stay! I wish I knew for sure though. I would be totally stoked if you did a follow-up story. There would be plenty of fun things you could do with this! Cheers!

Author's Response: I might do a follow-up, I find I kind of like this too. Though for the holiday fic feast I felt like this was a good place to end things. Thanks for reading!

Summary: A short Christmas story; after the war, the outcome of the war is different than in canon, though. Snape is alive, and so is Hedwig.

Oh very funny, Harry! Of course he would use The Bat of the Dungeons. I'm surprised Harry didn't use The Half Blood Prince, though! Very interesting idea! I like the idea of Harry and Ginny starting up a place for war orphans. That's a touch of brilliance, there. Harry would immediately feel for them giving his parentless childhood, and Ginny would be quite used to being around a whole tribe of kids and therefore aptly suited for the job!
I would love to read a story where Severus goes to visit!

Author's Response: Aww, I am so ashamed I forgot the Half Blood Prince. It would be so neat! Thank you for pointing that out and for your kind review.

For the Observations challenge by Mellow Moon: 5 times Harry observed something about Snape, and the 1 time Snape did the observing.

Oh my, I loved this! So subtle! I especially liked the one with Snape getting the letter from the Malfoy's. I loved how you described the expressions and the reactions, and how through describing even how Snape selects books spoke volumes of who he is as a character. So much more effective than just talking about a character. Personally, I think this deserves much more than the four frogs it's got for a rating at the moment. Especially because I am so easily distracted and suck at finishing reading stories!

Draco is exchanging anonymous letters with another Hogwarts student, pen named, Id. Id reveals disturbing information about himself, and Draco finds himself personally invested in Id's troubles. WARNING: It takes awhile for there to be much interaction with Harry and Severus.

Creepy ... I wonder who's taken Harry? Clever tactic of Snape's, telling Draco that Harry was dead. That grief should cover up plenty of thoughts the Dark Lord can't see. Hmm, I don't know about Dumbledore's lack of a reaction about Harry missing. Why wouldn't Snape give Dumbledore some of the facts, like Harry having been on the tower and then disappeared? Dumbledore would probably take him seriously then.
I wonder what Snape's planning! Definitely curious to see who's got Harry too - yikes!

Title: Chapter 2: The Monster in the Dark 04 Oct 2014

Oohh ... I love it! You've caught me with Draco's personality. His reasoning and motives are highly realistic.
The idea overall, with the letters is really cool. I don't think I have ever seen it done before, so high fives for you! I love the idea of the monster in the dark as well.
Oh, just a note, latter as you used it would require two t's - the usage in the story is missing one. :) I like to know if I make a typo so I can fix it (and goodness knows I make too many)so I thought I'd mention that.
Also, nice little allusion to Freud's work with Harry calling himself the Id. No doubt you chose it as reference to the letters possibly containing or having been motivated by Harry's hidden desires? Well, on I go!

On Halloween, Harry embarks upon a bizarre quest in order to escape an impossible detention in the Potions Dungeon. Written for Halloween 2014.

Call off Christmas ... dear me I do love that line. I was wondering where this was going, but I am glad I stuck with it. Wow, points for creativity, Shadow. Although, I do wonder how Harry would imagine that Snape knew Petunia. I giggled so hard at the idea of the invisibility cloak being a flying carpet, though!

Author's Response: Ha! Dreams are often a mixture of the improbable and the absurd, and they often suspend normal logic, even when the dreamer knows he's dreaming. I tried to ground Harry's dream in canon through October of Book 6, and the one shaky exception is the Petunia/Snape connection, as I knew some observant reader would spot! However-- the subconscious mind makes connections that thhe conscious mind can miss (why we often choose to "sleep" on a matter before making a decision), and Harry's mind made the connection. If someone told Petunia about Azkaban, he'd have to be of Lily's acquaintance, too, and the two "awful" males that Harry knows who knew Lily as a child were Pettigrew and Snape. Snape was viewed as "unpleasant" even then (by the Marauders); Peter was their friend. Thus, Harry constructed an accurate connection, even without certain knowledge-- his mind had just enough to work with! Thanks for reading and for the review! Now, on to Christmas!
