Voldemort is dead, but the world is going to hell anyway. Harry is forced to go into hiding as Snape's son. Little does he know, it isn't just a useful disguise.

I almost always avoid Severitus stories because 99% of the time they're riddled with fluff and a very out-of-character Snape who loses his stripes the moment he discovers he's Harry's father. Plus, I cannot seem wrap my head around the fan created concept of Snape-as-Harry's-father.

However, I quite enjoy this story. Not only have you avoided the cliche plot device of using Snape being Harry's father as a way of miraculously transforming Snape into "Mother-of-the-Year" (as you put it), but you've also managed to keep Snape in character. Very, very in character. He is such a bastard in this story--I love it.

I want to backhand Lupin for being so weak and submissive, which I presume is your intention. He is allowing Snape to influence him negatively and it's ridiculous. I really enjoy your characterization of Lupin. Bravo!

Poor Harry. He's stuck with a bullying Snape and a spineless Lupin. The boy has no one and nothing, and it's sad as hell. This is a very claustrophobic story; I feel like I'm trapped and suffocating right there with Harry. Not too many fics have the power to make me feel that way, so I can definitely appreciate ones that do.

Snape and Lupin are absolutely selfish in this story. It's... well, it's messed up, that's what it is.

Amazing and believable story. Very original and different from the rest in this category. I hope you haven't abandoned it; the Harry Potter world of fanfiction needs more stories like this.

Excuse me while I go sit in the nearest corner and patiently wait for an update. :)

Snape and Harry are locked in the Room of Requirement by Dumbledore. Harry's magic works, and Snape's doesn't. Will they kill each other? In response to the 72-Hour Challenge.

I think that this story has officially been abandoned, which is extremely depressing. This is the best, most gorgeous Snape/Harry fanfiction in existence. My absolute favorite piece. I've read it at least a dozen times and it never fails to amaze me. Such a beautiful story that is truly a gift to the world of fanfiction. Even after a year, it still remainds number one on my list of Snape/Harry fanfics.

The fact that you updated this means the world to me, you have no idea. Times have been rough as of late, and seeing an update and also the completion of this brilliant fic totally and completely made not my day, not my week, and not my month, but my ENTIRE years (no joke).

Your story is, without a doubt, the VERY BEST Snape/Harry gen fic I have EVER read. When I first started reading it two years ago, I was hooked instantly. It became like a drug: I checked back several times a day to see if it had been updated, I read and reread every chapter... I just couldn't get enough. I would think about it when I wasn't reading it, and when I was reading it, I wanted more and more.

When you stopped updating, I was crushed. Heartbroken. I mean, four years and thousands upon thousands of fics later and this magnificent work still remained, and STILL remains, my absolute favorite. I never ever gave up on it, but I was starting to lose hope. And then you updated and finished it.

You don't even know what this means to me.

What should I rave about? The unbelievably IC Snape you wrote? The damaged yet precious and loyal Harry you gave to us? The flaws and the humanity of both the characters? The (perfectly) understated pain? The mutual suffering the two shared? The amazing build-up of their ultimate amicability (and their relationship still isn't perfect, even in the end)? The anguish that was never overdone but wonderfully and beautifully handled without being over-the-top? I could go on and on.

Finishing this story with Snape giving Harry a picture--the picture from THAT day in the woods where the Room took them--was so chokingly and achingly poignant.

Words can't even begin to express my gratitude. Thank you so very much for astounding me, for writing the BEST and most true to character Snape I have ever read in HP fanfiction, for having our characters forge a VERY realistic and imperfect relationship, and for weaving together suffering and loyalty and tragedy and bitterness and comradery and unrequited love and happiness and grief and everything that hurts and everything that heals into the most beautiful, incredible, mind-blowing story I've ever read.

You are fabulous. The ride has been a long and joyful one full of many twists and turns, never failing to jar me and unsettle me and excite me. Thank you for sharing this fantastic creation with us and for coming back to finish it. I feel so fortunate.

    This story changed my life.

Author's Response: Wow, your review has kept a smile on my face for hours!  Thank you very, very much for your generous review.  Wow.

Dudley and Harry flee Vernon - to Severus. A different Tom Riddle, Petunia is good. Lucius and Draco are helpful. Albus is a bit misguided. The twins are only a year older than Harry, so I can make them non-Gryffindor.

I just wanted to say, this story is extremely clever and original. It's obvious you work very hard in crafting it, and that hard work shows. It's original, adventurous, and keeps me on edge.

The end bit with the Horcrux, Lockhart, and the coat had me laughing. That was hilarious.

    Until next time. :)

Author's Response: Thanks, I've enjoyed writing it. I like to throw a little humor in as long as it doesn't interfere with the plot.

Catastrophic events culminate in an unexpected kinship between some of Hogwarts’ most tenacious foes, while inciting bitter battles between best friends.

I've reviewed this story over at fanfiction.net several times, yet I feel compelled to review it here, too.

This fic, for some odd reason, is very close to my heart. I've followed it from the beginning. My list of favorite Snape/Harry stories is extremely short, comprised of only a few fics (about five, to be exact) and this one is on the list and has been since it was first published. There is just something very special about it that I haven't quite identified yet. You've obviously put a great deal of thought and time into this and your devotion and careful crafting have combined to make a brilliant story. I love your Snape; you've managed to make him quite endearing without ignoring his true nature. He loves Harry and cares for him, yet he still remains Snape-ish. Your Harry is charming. I love the relationship with Hermione as well. Most fics overdo the pairing and make it unbelievable or the turn it into the central plot, but you don't; you tie it in VERY nicely and remain true to the story. There's no out-of-this-world romance between them. They're just two young children in love surrounded by suffocating despair, but it's not blown out of proportion.

I commend you for writing a spectacular Snape, a wonderful Harry, a sweet and believable romance with Hermione, and for weaving together an incredible story that never fails to take my breath away. This is, by far, one of the best pieces of fanfiction I have ever read and will forever remain on my favorites list. This is a gift to the world of Harry Potter and I thank you for sharing with us. I will follow it straight to the end and read it over and over again once it's over. This story deserves thousands of rave reviews.

Oh, and excellent chapter, by the way! Harry's anger is delicious and justified. I greatly appreciate you not going the cheesy-easy route and having Snape and Harry make up immediately. I want to see Harry hurt and enraged; his fury is well-placed. I love this, I love the build up and the reality of it. You're handling this so well.

    Until next time. :)

Author's Response: All I can say is, wow! Thanks so much! I'm really pleased to know how much you've enjoyed the story because, just as you suspect, I have worked EXTREMELY hard on it. Compared to some oldhats, I'm pretty new to fan fiction; I've only been reading it since 2008 - which is when I began to write this story. After the release of the OotP movie, I became obsessed with a site that is now defunct: Dissendium. The webmasters created a Triwizard Tournament that I followed religiously, but the site also hosted fan fiction, a thing I stumbled upon quite by accident, but I soon became intrigued by it and began searching the Web for other Harry Potter fan fiction sites.

While I hated that Snape died in the last book, and that many viewed him as an irredeemable psycho-stalker, I also hated that Harry ended up with Ginny, and Hermione with Ron, but it never occurred to me to take the initiative and write it the way I would have liked the story to have gone. Granted, I would never have thought to have Snape and Harry become friendly, let alone become family, but I've read a number of well-written stories on the subject, many of which inspired me to contribute my own version. I liked some of those stories better than others for the exact reason that you give for not liking many H/Hr pairings: Most fics overdo and make it unbelievable.

I have to say that I'm glad you appreciate that I'm 'not going the cheesy-easy route and having Snape and Harry make up immediately'. You'd be surprised - or maybe not - by some of the comments I get from people who find the conflict scenes difficult to read. I suppose I could egotistically chalk that up to my writing skills, but I think that people generally read these adoption/mentor/guardian fics for the feel-good aspect, because as bitter as Snape and Harry's interactions were in the books, if you're going to write a piece where they become family, by God there had better be some Fluff in it! Having said that, I couldn't write a piece that consisted solely of a cherubic Harry and doting, indulgent Snape, though, to be honest, when I first started writing this story, I did rush the relationship along so that Snape was adopting Harry back in October, instead of January, but after carefully reading over what I had written, I decided to slow my roll and do my best to make the story more emotionally realistic; it's interesting to me to figure out how to effectively craft the scenes dealing with the uglier side of the situation, but not go overboard. I think I've done a decent job with that. I hope I've done a decent job with that.

This is the first time I've written anything outside of papers for English class (I majored in English), so I was terribly hesitant to post what I'd written 'cause I was uncertain as to how it would be received. The responses I have received though prompted me to take writing classes. I work at the university I graduated from, so getting back into it was a breeze. The school now has a writing program, something they didn't have when I attended before. I'm learning a lot in my classes, but I learned a wealth of tricks and tips trolling the web, and I learned even more by simply reading and reading and reading! There is some truly excellent writing out there; there's also some truly horrific stuff where you want to gouge your eyes out for having read it and you think, "Really? They thought that was good?"

Anyhoo, before this devolves into some novel-length rant, let me say that it took me a while to respond because I wanted to be clear on how much I appreciated you taking the time to write that review. Thanks again.

Wow, just wow. This story was absolutely amazing. I love how Snape chose to deal with it in hid own Snape-ish way. Seriously, why does this not have more reviews? It deserves thousands of rave ones. Incredible job!

What will it take to make Snape see the truth about Harry Potter? A few short scenes to reveal the fragility of life and a bit of uneasy reckoning. Takes place during the first week of HBP. Rated Mature for language and subject matter.

I really enjoyed this story. it was so dark and angsty and perfect.

When he finds out that Lockhart’s specialty is memory charms, he feels sick, even though he’s not sure why.

This is extremely intense. I love how you've kept Snape in character and hope that you continue to do so. I'm nervous! Things are really building up, aren't they? Wonderful chapter.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that the Boy-Who-Lived exists. Harry's friends don't remember who he is. It's a struggle for Harry to hold on to reality as he knows it, while at the same time coming to terms with who he really is. He finds Snape an unexpected ally in the struggle that ensues to reclaim his identity. 6th year AU. (Harry is gay)

I just love gay Harry! I like that Snape doesn't care at all about Harry's homosexuality. I never pegged Snape as someone who would hate a person based on their sexual orientation (he would just hatw them for everything else, haha). Great story you've got here!

I adore this fic! Your Harry is so endearing, and your Snape is wonderful. The end of this chapter made me break into a huge smile.

To answer your question, I definitely don't think you've overdone it with the romance. ACTUALLY... I'd love to see some more romance! Harry deserves a decent guy who will love him and make him happy. :)
