| I have been writing fan fiction for years, mostly in my head. Lately inspired to share. I love Severus fics--I have a lot of sympathy for beleaguered schoolteachers and frustrated researchers. Currently I am crowdfunding my original novel over at Indigogo: http://igg.me/at/paganaidd/x/13102079 [Report This]

This chapter nearly made me crawl out of my skin. You did an excellent job of describing a bone marrow biopsy and using that to spool up the tension.
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Paganaidd. I know you're in the medical field so that makes your comment mean so much more. I'm glad my research has paid off. :)
Petunia Dursley is cleaning the attic and finds a previously unknown copy of Lily’s will. Ecstatic at her discovery, she promptly abandons her burdensome nephew, along with Lily’s will, on the doorstep of her childhood nemesis (aka, Severus Snape). ***SEQUEL "Lily's Last Wish" NOW POSTED***

This is so sad!
I'm hoping Harry doesn't have to leave.

Did Snape bring Hermione's Hogwarts letter? He seems rather well known to the Grangers. Or perhaps he gained a doctorate in some Muggle subject and the Grangers know him professionally or as academic colleagues?
Anyway, this was very sweet and sad. I'm sniffling.

This is a fine place to end it, although it does have a rather large sequel hook!
Thanks for sharing.
Cauldron’s bubbled. Potions simmered. And Snape was yelling at Neville again. Just another ordinary day in Potions class, or so they all thought. When a potion reveals something out of the ordinary, Harry’s life is changed forever, and not in a positive way. Was it so unreasonable to ask that he be allowed to make it through sixth year like a normal teenager?

I like how you capture that peculiar "I've made up my mind, so I feel better" that is common in suicidal people.
Probably, from the outside, it looked like Harry was starting to take an interest in things again (showing up for class etc). The assumption by people who aren't aware of how depression and suicidality can look would be that he was just coming out of it gradually.
I also like that Draco gets it when Harry gives him his Firebolt without needing to see the note.
The fall from the tower made my stomach turn over. Good catch, Severus!
Author's Response: Yeah, I'm a psych major and we learned about this is psychology class, but then also becasue of various campus jobs I've held I was required to take 4 or 5 different suicide prevention seminars. They really covered symptoms well so that we knew what to look out for in other people. Giving away prized possessions, feeling relief once the choice of when and how to do it is made, etc. Thanks for the review.

"There had been no funeral or memorial service, nor had there been any mourners."
This is the worst condemnation a person can receive. Bravo for Severus realizing it and deciding to do something before the same could be said of him.
This story has really caught me. Excellent work.

I would like to see Molly and Arthur having words with Ron about his attitude, personally.
Do the students realize that Harry was trying to kill himself? And what would be their reaction? Or perhaps Dumbledore has put out the word that Harry was ill and delirious?

Nice, scary start.
Wondering how Severus is going to stay out of Azkaban.
Just one question (because I'm a little obsessive compulsive about these details)It's not clear how long the seizure is; is it one long seizure or several short ones?
I wanted to reach in and start assisting the child's breathing myself--a compliment to the amount of tension you built up in the scene.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Oh, wow.
I like Dumbledore's implication that Harry will be Severus' responsibility for a very long time.
"Assuming he does wake" Brrrrr.
On the other hand, Albus is taking a huge gamble. hoping to salvage the situation by having Severus make amends this way is either brilliant or insane. Or both.
Looking forward to more!

Um. Maybe Harry could return from a certain train station..?
Author's Response: Well, Harry's done remarkable things before...
