After Dumbledore’s death, Hogwarts has to be evacuated to ensure a proper turnover of the wards. Accordingly, McGonagall announces that everyone must leave for the winter holidays. With Bellatrix still on the loose, Harry has little desire to endanger his friends by going home with them, so he resigns himself to a terrible holiday spent with the Dursleys.

Thankfully for him, Severus has been on the alert ever since he had uncovered bits and pieces of Harry’s childhood. When he discovers where Harry has gone, he immediately sets about putting the situation to rights.

    Snort. If Harry feels the need to do chores, he needs to come to my house. I have plenty to keep him busy. Seriously though, I was surprised that Harry is going to let down his guard enough to try occlumency again. Snape must have been surprised, too.

    Author's Response: harry's viewing occlumency as a way to atone for fucking up in the previous year... he's not /really/ planning to learn anything, he's being self-destructive :(

    The occlumency lesson was interesting. Clearly it wasn't what Harry was expecting. I wonder if Snape would be better off letting Harry do some minor chores if it makes him feel better? Next chapter may tell me the answer.

    Author's Response: it had to be unexpected to be effective because the OG occlumency lessons were not any good, and it would make harry feel better but at the cost of reinforcing harry's mindset that he has to earn his keep

    Oh boy! An upcoming Christmas chapter. I love Christmas chapters! I wonder what Harry will have for Severus?

    That was a memorable Christmas for Harry and probably Snape. It must have been the first time in a long while that either had anything resembling a family for the holiday.

    I like that you did the chapter from Snape's point of view. I also like that Severus is married. With everything on his shoulders, he needs the support.

Instead of being rushed to Gryffindor Common Room by Ron and Hermione after Lockhart's disastrous dueling club, Harry is taken to the dungeons for a good telling-off by Snape. But when Harry lets slip what the Sorting Hat had planned for him, Snape's opinion of Harry might just change for the better.

    That was an interesting end to the dueling fiasco. It sounds like Harry and Snape ended up viewing each other a bit differently. Snape must have realized that James Potter would have never thanked him the way Harry did.

    Author's Response: Thanks! Yes that's what I was getting at. I also thought it would be cool to have the Head of Slytherin tell Harry about Parseltongue.

Draco is always enthusiastic to spend the day with his uncle Sev, and he's extra excited when he gets to do so at Hogwarts this week. But only a few hours into the day and the headmaster visited the dungeons, bringing along an extra special "adventure" for the two. Harry Potter had runaway from his home at the Dursely's for the fifth time now, and Albus was starting to get flustered. None of the family service witches had seemed to do any help for little Harry, so Albus decided to send Severus this time. The only problem is that Harry's situation is much worse than Severus wanted to believe. What happens after Severus is witness to the boy's home life? How does Draco react to meeting the-boy-who-lived? Why is the headmaster so upset about it?

    I've read Snape finds runaway Harry stories before but none with Draco. He sounds like a kinder, less spoiled Draco and I like him. It seems like Harry does, too. Having the boys suddenly apparate was a nice way to lead to Severus checking out the Dursley home and finding the signs of abuse. I look forward to reading the next chapter.
