A very interesting skill Neville has demonstrated. It's so very in line with his reticent and reserved manner... after all, it would be scary and confusing to constantly be "feeling" things about people when their words and actions might be at odds. Especially in one so young and in such a hostile environment he's grown up in. I'm also happy Neville is the one with a special and unique talent, not Harry. IDK why, I just am.

I totally give a pass to Severus on the Mr Longbottom thing. My impression is that it was totally non-intentional. Just falling back into old patterns.

I'm happy for this update and look forward to more!

    Author's Response:

Indeed, it fits him totally.  You're not the only one, when I first started writing this chapter, it was always Neville, it didn't think of me to make it Harry. That little boy has his own special power without being aware of it, his ability to forgive and move on. I know it doesnt seem like much but with the way he was abused he is the perfect one to help Severus, especially since we know how Severus rejects help of any kind. I can just imagine how spooked Moony would be though when Neville said that lol.

Good, because it wasn't intentional at all. Unlike with Harry he hadn't been saying the last name with venom and as Neville himself wasnt saying anything he didn't have a reason to really know, you know?

I'm so glad you're loving the story! Your review and support means alot!

LOL, all these emotions with kids are messy aren't they?

LOL, the attention span of Draco is quite funny.

Author's Response: But it fits with Albus, the old man is just like that at times.

harry should be proud he knows how to be quiet. It's a hard skill for kids :-)

Although the reason he knows how to be quiet is heartbreaking.

Finally there is something I agree with Albus on: Dudley isn't innocent and his actions can't be hand-waved away. He needs both punishment and counseling.

Harry would always remember it as the summer he got to go to camp and forever escape the Dursleys. Severus would remember it as the summer he allowed himself to stop being blind. In response to the Camp challenge by JAWorley.

I'm so happy I found this story for many reasons. The foremost one being that it's taking me back to when i was at Camp for the summer and how much fun I had. Thank you so much for that since I had essentially forgotten those experiences.

Harry's reasoning and circumspection is spot on for his age and background. He's also - as most abused kids are - entirely correct in his reasoning's and assumptions of the adults and politics around him.

I can't wait to read more!

I think my heart is breaking for Harry. He must feel so isolated and defeated. He can go no where without persecution and hatred. Ach, poor Harry. I want to just sweep him up and kick Snape in the nads. He's not a very good counselor is he? If he's been doing this for so long, he must know that regular kids probably don't even know about the camp. How hard to verify his Aunt and Uncle are in prison?

Title: Chapter 8: What Severus Snape Saw 11 Apr 2015
Reviewer: teriwright (Signed)
Whew! I'm happy Snape is finally opening his eyes but sad that it takes Harry exposing his most vulnerable side to one of his bully's in order for that to happen. What immense courage it took for Harry to do that. Well done Harry!

A great chapter and can't wait for more!

Harry has a secret, and his magic helps him hide it. But all secrets come out sooner or later; they are easy to uncover if you know what to look for.

Great start! Painful to read though how Snape and other adults have such an ingrained picture of what the BWL should be that they utterly fail in their duties. Though I love Snape, I sincerely hope he feels deep shame at his actions, along with guilt and remorse. I also hope Harry doesn't let him off the hook too quickly. Make him earn Harry's trust after 4 years of abusing him.

Author's Response: Hi teriwright, I'm glad you've enjoyed the story so far. Don't worry, it happens slowly, but from now on Snape starts getting better. I've just put up the next chapter, give it a try.

i don't understand or agree with the idea that not healing a patient is the way to go in protecting that patient. She didn't do her duty as a healer. Letting a patient walk around injured just so she can rage at DD is unconscionable. "Deal with how he got the injuries is more important that healing him" is a crock of shite IMHO. A doctor in an emergency room doesn't go chasing down the shooter, they heal the gunshot wound. Only then do they report the assault.

I can't tell if this is a condemnation of Poppy or poor reasoning for the plot. Are we bashing Poppy in this story? Illustrating yet another way Harry is being abused and neglected?

Author's Response: I was not intending to bash Poppy, although that particular line was poorly phrased. The thing is, while his bruises look bad she has already ascertained that (with the possible exception of his leg) none of Harry's injuries are serious enough to particularly require assistance healing; certainly not immediately (unlike in many other abuse fics). If his injuries were worse there would be no question about healing him first, but in this case triage gives preference to his mental health. Given the opportunity, she decides that it is more important to take a few hours to find out what she can about the situation and start developing solutions, so that when she does talk to Harry she can actually answer his questions and worries.
