Author's Response: Thanks very much for your review! Yes, I always wanted to go for that edge as I can't believe Snape being soft to anyone. About your question, yes, he does become a double agent-but notice this big difference...This time Harry knows Snape is loyal to him and there is no animosity between them. So no, Snape does not die, but survives the war with Voldemort having no clue of his true loyalties. Snape is a very dark sort of fellow so I guess his vague thoughts of things not lasting forever are just thoughts. Thanks for your review once again! The summer Harry turns eighteen he sleeps alone in a shed at the Burrow. Will he be fit to return to Hogwarts for a seventh year of education? What does a last year at Hogwarts have to offer in the aftermaths of Voldemort’s demise? And how will Harry cope with the Headmaster in office?

You did a brilliant job, sad to see this story over after all the time, but really happy it's now complete. Author's Response: Thank you for this and several reviews before! I have enjoyed the spontaneous character of them and I agree with you: Severus would have needed some sort of closure with Lily, for his own well-being, because as it is now, it still affects him way too much, but maybe a friendship with Harry might help him overcome that?
This was amazingly well written. I knew Snape would go after Harry when he fell, but to imagine them fighting alongside together... and that finale! UGH! So good! So in character too-- while I craved it, I couldn't see Snape pouring out his heart like that. Author's Response: Oh, I like these kind of emotional responses - it feels like I have accomplished something... The scene between Snape and Harry in the end is one of my own favourite scenes in this story - so happy that you approved of it!
I kind of wish they'd have a conversation about Lily soon, though. It's so frustrating, feeling the obvious elephant in the room. I think Harry deserves it. Author's Response: Thank you for reviewing! I sympathise with your frustration. Snape is indeed impossibly sensitive and irrational about breaching the subject of Lily with Harry. In a few chapters, during which I’m afraid the tension will only build up even more, circumstances will, however, force them to speak about her and there will be a kind of release. For a tolerably satisfactory settlement between S and H, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until the very end of the story, though…
God, I hate Rita Skeeter. No wonder's Sev has a permanent storm cloud above his head. What a story! Almost wish Voldemort was around to hear that one! Ooh, but then part about Harry being Snape's son... ooh, that must really piss off Snape, knowing that Harry COULD HAVE been his if he hadn't ruined things with Lily... eesh. Very angsty, I felt just as frustrated as Harry did by the end. Update soon! Author's Response: The funny part, I think, is that Snape has been taunting Harry about his celebrity status since Harry’s first year at Hogwarts and now Snape is forced to endure the same kind of unwelcome attention from the press that Harry has had to put up with all those years…
I didn’t really know whether Skeeter’s story about Voldemort’s heir would go down well or badly - maybe it’s a bit exaggerated, but on the other hand, this is only fan fiction - a ff writer can indulge in all kind of weird ideas, right :-) ?
Author's Response: Thank you! Nice to know that scene worked out and, yes, it's finally time for S to show that he is human after all :-)
Gosh, can't the Death Eaters give it a rest? And SNAPE! He's so wonderfully written here-- still SO torn and determined to protect Harry, and yet, he's growing. I can see it. That cliffhanger made me choke. Well done. Author's Response: Thank you! What a relief that somebody actually appreciated that difficult chapter! When he learns about the Dursleys, Dumbledore forces Snape to adopt Harry. Harry is frightened knowing that Snape and his father were rivals in school, but things are even worse than he had imagined. As Harry learns of the real connection between Snape and his father, the line between good and evil starts to blur. What will Harry do when he learns about how the death eaters started and he finds himself sympathizing with them? Will Snape overcome his horrendous past and give Harry love and support as his world view crumbles around him?

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! I'm really glad you liked it. Yes, Dumdledore is being a complete idiot. He just can't see past Severus's house. He loves Severus like a son but he still can't trust him.
That last part I'm just... WHAT. JAMES. OH MY GOD. Ok, now that I've freaked out... I have to ask if Tyrus was just born evil? Like Voldemort? It would certainly make sense as to why Dumbledore would want to bring him down... eliminate the monster when he himself raised one. It was certainly a very moving, very tragic, very different Dumbledore backstory. I enjoyed that bit very much. Ok, second thing- I hate this Dumbledore. He really creeps me out. He thinks of Severus as a son... but is thoroughly convinced he's evil? What? I guess he assumes so because of Tyrus... he loved Tyrus unconditionally, so I guess the same applies to Sev? Hm. I got chills reading that part... Severus is obviously struggling and having your mentor just throw your mistakes back in your face... eesh. I don't know how Sev's doing it. Although... why isn't Severus livid? He seems just a bit too laid back about all this. Obviously he's trying to play it cool and not panic but.... I don't know. He's still wonderfully in character, but I could see him being a bit angrier about all this. Anyone's character and moral compass being questioned constantly is bound to make them snap. Still, their conversation was very... unsettling. And long. You threw me for a loop with that last bit about James. I'm already thinking about how Harry is going to react to having his Dad back... and Severus. Uh oh. Oh no. (Also, I think Dumbledore laughing about having his "warrior" moment is the creepiest freaking thing I've ever read. He needs to be committed to St. Mungo's). Amazing update, can't wait for next chapter! Author's Response: Tyrus was his mother’s son so yes, he was genetically predisposed to evil. The bloodlust was always in him. Severus and Tyrus have many things in common. Being parcelmouths, loving darkness and solitude, the pale skin resulting from lack of sunlight, the suspicion in their eyes, love of the color black. That is the reason why D. took such a keen interest in Severus in the first place. Severus is rather passive in this story in regards to Dumbledore. Severus calls Dumbledore his mentor since he doesn’t want to seem overly sentimental but, in fact, he considers him more of a father figure. Severus grew up with Dumbledore. He spent Christmas, summer and easter vacations at Healer’s Touch. The headmaster is one of the few people who have shown him any type of kindness. D has saved his life many times, no matter what Severus does. These facts will inspire a certain sense of loyalty. Add to that, the enormous guilt that Severus feels for his past mistakes. Severus was once a bitter and angry boy, furious with Dumbledore and Potter. D's behaviour towards him did cause Severus to snap. He ran away from Healer's touch and joined the death eaters. He committed unspeakable crimes which he, now that his angry has died down, has come to regret. He has to live with these crimes for the rest of his life. He sees them in his nightmares, he sees them in the dark mark branded on his arm. Severus has come to the point of self-loathing. This makes him susceptible to Dumbledore’s manipulations and quick to see only the evil within himself. Now his anger is turned inwards and he thinks he deserves everything he gets. James Potter’s return will cause major mayhem everywhere. Imagine what will happen to the bond between Harry and Severus. Oh, I haven’t even gotten to the really creepy parts of the story yet! Thanks so much for your comments! I’m sorry it took so long to respond, I didn’t get email alerts for the reviews this time. At Severus Snape’s first Order meeting, he gets an unpleasant shock.
