Terror and destruction seemed inevitable after Voldemort finally revealed himself to the Wizarding World, but at Hogwarts, Harry lives a disturbingly unchanged life. He exists in parallel to the people around him, and as time passes the line between friend and foe stretches into a complex gradient, difficult to decipher. - Oh Harry.. you really do need to control that temper! Snape is certainly more at fault being the adult and all. So I love you but still.. temper. control. The illustration was very pretty and useful, wonder exactly what all those runes mean. Great chapter!

- What Snape did to Hermione had me boiling, and while the full story is less extreme it does not let him off the hook, its inexcusable! Dumbledore maybe slightly less infuriating but only marginally.
We finally get an idea of what happened to Cleo, I gasped when I reached the end. This was a beast of a chapter, so generous with the plot, these updates honestly make my day! :)

After what is surely a more-than-preventable potions accident, Harry Potter winds up stuck in the hospital wing, unable to wake up. Severus just wishes he knew why Poppy won’t stop bothering him about it.

- I like how Snape isn't very forgiving in this story. Most other post-war fanfics show him accepting everyone's apologies or even thinking that he doesn't deserve any. I mean, I have no problem with them at all, this is a pretty unique take. Really good explanation of the ley lines and the science talk. Sprout's exasperation with the Ravenclaw professors was hilarious.

Author's Response: Thank you for the kind comments! I imagine Snape was hurt by how the professors turned against him, and even knowing they did so because he was such a good actor wouldn't change that.
With Slytherin's monster at large, the Board of Governors decided to close Hogwarts for the Christmas holidays. Not wanting to go back to the Dursleys, Harry ends up temporarily homeless and is found by the most unlikely person.

After a disastrous fifth-year Potions class with Potter, Severus discovers that Potter is being tortured by Umbridge. With Dumbledore evicted from Hogwarts, there’s little Severus can do to keep his oath to protect Potter. That is, until Severus is given the troubling news that Umbridge has given Potter another detention, thus compelling him to take Potter’s place.

After Dumbledore’s death, Hogwarts has to be evacuated to ensure a proper turnover of the wards. Accordingly, McGonagall announces that everyone must leave for the winter holidays. With Bellatrix still on the loose, Harry has little desire to endanger his friends by going home with them, so he resigns himself to a terrible holiday spent with the Dursleys.
Thankfully for him, Severus has been on the alert ever since he had uncovered bits and pieces of Harry’s childhood. When he discovers where Harry has gone, he immediately sets about putting the situation to rights.

Harry doesn’t think living in the orphanage is that bad, but he’s tired of being picked on for having no one that wants him. When someone sends word they want to adopt a young wizard, Harry leaves the orphanage to go to his new home. The problem is, there’s been a mistake. Severus Snape would never have requested to adopt Harry Potter, and now that he’s there, he doesn’t want to keep him.
