About me:

I'm a lurker and have been ever since I was delighted to discover that FanFiction existed online about 12 years ago. I used to have nearly every Star Trek ff novel ever published, but it wasn't until I stumbled onto "LiveJournal" and found that they had a thriving ff community, writing ff for a couple of my favorite books and shows that FanFiction is alive and well and NOT JUST for us "old fogie" ST: TOS & SW fans anymore!😎
NO, HP is *not* one of those favorites.

As a matter of fact, it wasn't until 2012 that I accidentally read an SPNff story that was actually a crossover with an *unlabeled* and *untagged* HPff! I was already several pages in before they introduced an abused child named "Harry"!

That I'd found a writer who ACKNOWLEDGED the *child abuse* found throughout this "touted" and "ballyhooed" work of unattributed FANFICTION was, to me, a *revelation*! Prior to *that* story, I'd avoided HPff like the plague!

For me, to see the "Harry Potter" label on a story was the "kiss of death"!

I'm a Fantasy & Science Fiction BIBLIOHOLIC and have been since I was about 4-years-old, so when my husband's nephew came to live with us, in 2005, and I saw that he had the first 5 [HP] novels, I was *eager* to read them [picture "grabby hands ;D]! But the story *started* out /Dark/; I began to get a bad feeling when this creepy "Gandalf" knock-off started turning off streetlights! I was already unsettled when the teacher and "Gandalf" stood there debating leaving a 15-month-old *TODDLER* *OUTSIDE* on a doorstep in *November*! I just *knew* that "Gandalf" was going to turn out to be the real (true) villain of the books!

Nothing has changed my mind since.

Further reading of the 5 books saw me finding instance after instance of nearly direct *steals* from many *classic* Fantasy novels and MY childhood favorites; how could people tout books that were filled with unattributed plagiarism?

How could people *applaud* books that used unmitigated, unremedied, and even *IGNORED* child abuse and bullying (of MULTIPLE characters!) as *PLOT DEVICES*?!

Anyhoo, discovering HPff and finding that there are a LOT of writers --and READERS-- who feel as I do and work diligently to "write"(;D) the wrongs of the books are what has made me an HPff fanatical *fan*!

Thank you, HPff writers! Y'all keep me going and bring some sanity, humor, and justice to an insane world!

You make this old "lurker" very happy!

Bless you, all! [Report This]

I hadn't read this one in a while, but this time the Epilogue made me cry! Such an incredible story! One that should seriously be held up as one of the best "Time Travel - Fix-its" I've ever read!

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing vision with us!

I'm so sorry you never came back to this; it's an incredibly *good* story!

Harry & Severus' interactions are wonderful! As difficult as trying to talk with Harry is at times, he never loses his patience and allows Harry his "moments".

You should be very proud of this story; I felt honored to read it!

Thank you for sharing this with us!
I hope you are well and continuing to write. You have talent that should not be shut away!
May the Lord bless you and keep you!

*Sigh* I do so wish that you'd have been able to continue this story. You had a truly amazing first 5 chapters; these alone put paid to the idea of Rowling as nothing more than a fumble-fingered Charleton!
Your characters are well-drawn and clearly defined and I find your dialogue exquisite! I'm particularly disheartened to report that my greatest failing is the ability to write *good* dialogue, so when I read stories with dialogue that "sings" I *have* to make sure the writer is aware of the rarity of the ability *and* how much they've surpassed every day, "good enough"!

I have this "bookmarked" on FFN, but had to read it again on finding it here as well!

I truly hope that you are well and are continuing to write for pleasure in some capacity; you have talent and it would be a shame to know that it's being hidden under a bushel basket!

Take care and bless you for what you have shared with us!
    Thank you!

    Ugh, Ginevra! Talk about AU!
I thought it was hilarious that Rowling used an alternate spelling of "Virginia": Virginia - Virgin😂? And yet the girl was a "doorknob" and a fangirl right til the end!
I notice *she* didn't spend time researching spells and helping Harry with every task!

Incredible story! It leaves me hopeful but also angry.

I do want to thank you: That's *exactly* what I'd expect from Dumblef***; in ff or in canon! He's an evil MOB and the (true) villain of the books, no matter what the "fans" may think!

    Good, but heartbreaking one-shot!
    Thanks!

    I simply *love* this premise!

I know, it's been 6 years since you wrote these chapters and 4 since you've last written anything, but regardless, I still want you to know that your works are still being read and appreciated!

I hope you are well and are still creating/writing somewhere; maybe under another pseud.

If you are still monitoring your reviews here on P&S, I know the reply mechanism is broken and nobody seems to care, but if you do want to reply I can be reached on FFN under LtsHrIt4ThBoyz or by email at mel j major AT gmail dot com. But no worries.

This premise is so original; I've never read anything like it! If you haven't already, you should issue it as a challenge: Harry earns a scholarship to another magical/non-magical school, grades 2 to 6; allowing him to escape the Dursleys and causing all kinds of headaches for the MOB.

I'd love to see it turn into a trope all on its own!

Thank you so very much for sharing your talents with us!
    Take care and God bless!

Summer fic fest. At one point, early in their life, every wizard needs to submit to surgery. The summer after his first year at Hogwarts, it is the turn of Harry Potter to do so. It’s supposed to be a trifle, but what is ordinary about the Boy-who-lived? Complications will arise. Ghosts from the past will appear and secrets people thought buried for ever are revealed. The question is, in the middle of this ordeal, will Severus Snape at long last find something meaningful to do with his life?

Oh, good: I don't feel nearly so strange leaving a comment/review on a story that's 6 years old! 😋 Not, that that would stop *me*😁; I've left comments on stories from 2005 or older! It's the quality of the story and the writing that compels me to reach out to the one who put in the time, effort, and resolve to send one of their creations out into the world; it's the least I can do to show my heartfelt appreciation for that effort!

I found this story to be amazing...and *surprising*: You caught me off-guard not only with *where* it went but also with the depths you --and your characters-- were willing to explore!

I was fully expecting, as this *was* a "challenge" piece, a somewhat "light" story about Severus aiding Harry during a surgical hospital stay while uncovering some truths about Harry's home life, and with these revelations, becoming a mentor towards Harry and a monitor to prevent excesses by the Dursleys...

I do like those stories --anything that shows that at least *ONE* adult gives a crap about *Harry*!-- because I despise canon and the series with a loathing that exceeds my dislike for any book or story that I've ever read in all of my 55 years of being a voracious Fantasy & Science Fiction reader and Children's Literature reviewer.

So, please understand just how much HPff means to me: It means that *I'm* not *alone* in my disgust at the hell that "Rowling" put Harry and her other characters through and my abhorrence at her *light-hearted* cavalier attitude towards unmitigated, unremedied, and ignored and/or dismissed *child abuse* and bullying of multiple CHILD characters! I fully understood and agreed with why *all* of the *reputable* publishing houses turned her down!

But I digress; I believe that I'm most impressed with the amount of thought you put into each of the main character's motivations and backstory and made them "real" people and not the 2-dimensional caricatures of canon; *these* people could easily be your neighbors!

But if the Dursleys lived on my street they'd have been thoroughly investigated, probably imprisoned, and Harry in a new living situation before his 1st year was out! And if I'd moved into the neighborhood anytime after that 1st year and even suspected anything untoward going on, the *neighbors* would have been up on charges along with the Dursleys as "co-conspirators" and/or "aiding & abetting"!

Rowling's BS turned the entire neighborhood and Harry's school admin into accomplices!

I don't care how much "clout" or money or "standing" a couple has: If two children from the same family come to school and one is well and appropriately dressed and the other in rags; one apparently over-fed and the other skinny as a rail along with the other tell-tale signs of gross disparity, I'm calling the cops!!

Anyhoo, I'm glad I found this story! It's truly memorable and I can only hope that you've cross-posted on other ff platforms; it definitely deserves a wider audience!

Well, I'm off (as you've undoubtedly noticed😁) to check out your other stories and see if you ever posted the "sequel" you hinted at writing!

Dear Henna, I hope you're well and having the greatest success at whatever you're doing! You have a real talent and I'd hate to think of it languishing.

I've seen too many amazing writers in the years I've been reading ff, fail to fulfill the promise shown in their works; mainly because they compare themselves to the success of "Rowling"!

DON'T! The woman is a Charleton; her writing is 3rd-rate at best and mainly due to TWO factors: One, she *stole* from the *best*. Much of "her" characters, scenes, and plots were plagiarized from many sources: Greek and Roman mythology and multiple *classics* from Fantasy and other Children's fiction! And the second: An excellent PR firm employed by Bloomsbury to *push* the books and BUY good reviews!

That's it! They pushed it onto a *non-reading* public by "hook and by crook"!

So, *don't* compare *your real* talent to that hack! There's a huge difference between a real gem and faux "paste and glass".

Thank you for sharing this "Gem" with us!
    Take care!

One can only hope that the Dursleys *suffered* irreparable harm by just the accusation of murdering their nephew if they weren't convicted of the crime! The *canon* Dursleys should have been imprisoned!

I'm mostly curious about what level of "Wish Magic" Harry was able to employ to render Dumblef***'s 'gadgets' useless and how did the non-magical authorities much less the magical ones find and identify a child's *body* as his?!

If I were Severus, I'd go apply for adoption of "Jerome", resign from Hogwarts, and become an independent brewer! I definitely wouldn't want to allow "Jerome" within 100 *miles* of the school OR the MOB!

Good one-shot though it does make for more burning questions than answers!

    Thanks!

Draco is always enthusiastic to spend the day with his uncle Sev, and he's extra excited when he gets to do so at Hogwarts this week. But only a few hours into the day and the headmaster visited the dungeons, bringing along an extra special "adventure" for the two. Harry Potter had runaway from his home at the Dursely's for the fifth time now, and Albus was starting to get flustered. None of the family service witches had seemed to do any help for little Harry, so Albus decided to send Severus this time. The only problem is that Harry's situation is much worse than Severus wanted to believe. What happens after Severus is witness to the boy's home life? How does Draco react to meeting the-boy-who-lived? Why is the headmaster so upset about it?

Really well done! You've skillfully conveyed each of Harry's feelings beyond anything that Rowling wrote in canon!

She wrote as a child would without depth or understanding of how a child, raised in such a poisonous environment and beaten down every moment that he could remember would actually act and react!

Do *not* attempt to defend or legitimize her and her books to me!

I'm 59 years old and have read classic Fantasy & Science Fiction my entire life! I also used to review Children's and Youth Fiction for my local library!

The truly sad thing is that because children and adults under 30 were discouraged from reading and have nothing to measure this garbage against, they think Rowling is "wonderful"! Well, can truthfully say that it's some of the worst writing I've ever read!

Your 2 chapters stand "head and shoulders" above hers on any scale you'd care to use!

Funny but related digression: When I read the books in 2005, the American versions had beautiful covers, but I recently saw the original cover art for the UK versions. They look like they were drawn by a TEN-YEAR-OLD and not a very talented 10-year-old either!

As that's the level of writing that I found when attempting to read them, I'm not terribly surprised!

What did surprise me was the level of unattributed *plagiarism* that Bloomsbury either allowed or conspired to; I recognized characters, plotlines, and scenes from classic stories on a single read-through! What "she" wrote (or the ghostwriters at Bloomsbury) was a highly *pushed* and financial "golden goose" of a FANFICTION without attribution to the writers she *stole* from!

Your writing is terrific and if you're not intimidated by the process, something that you should seriously think of pursuing!

    Really, really well done!
    Thank you!

Well, you could definitely use a Beta for spelling and proofreading, but the *feeling* is there; the ability to build a scene and wring pathos and/or humor from it!

You must either be a parent, have an excellent memory, or have dealt with children because your characterizations of Harry and Draco are spot on! And Draco is delightful!

I was very impressed as well as surprised when you had Draco pick up his own toys and tidy up AND that he didn't ask for one thing for himself on his quest for the perfect "Welcome home" gift for Harry!

I know that makes him very OOC or maybe this is the Draco that could have been at 7-years-old; I always pictured him as a magical version of Dudley (or James Potter!), but without the "overfeeding" syndrome of the Dursleys.

I always felt that what Petunia and Vernon did to Dudley was another kind of child abuse: Overindulging, overfeeding, no boundaries, no consequences for behavior that later as an adult will see him in and out of prison and, in all probability, dead before he's 30. If not in a back alley fight with the wrong person then of a heart attack.

In their twisted quest to show Harry just how much he's not wanted and despised they're raising a monster!

There's kind of an ironic twist there: Dumbasfu** raised Harry as a sacrificial lamb and the Dursleys raised Dudley as a pig to slaughter.
    -------------😒

I'm really hoping that your "Epilogue" puts a nice big "F-U" stick in Dumbasfu**'s spokes!

    Thanks!
