An update! Yay! When I first came across this story two years ago, I thought it would remain unfinished, as it's sometimes the case with great stories. I'm glad I was wrong. What makes this story to stand out from the rest are not only the horses, a really wonderful tribute to your friend, but also the general atmosphere that differs from the majority of this much seen Snape-takes-Harry-in-over-the-summer plot.

Dear Magica Draconia, THANK YOU for this story. Snape doesn't act like a doting paternal figure, but again, I think few authors managed to make him believable that way, and with it, they have taken away some of his best Snape-like qualities. Speaking as a complete stranger,it's a wonderful tribute to your friend. Besides, they served as a tool for exploring Snape's inner life. I kind of hoped that the horse Dobby had broken could be stored to its old self..but I understand why you chose not to do that. I would very much like a sequel, but I don't really expect it-this story is perfect as it is.
This is a series of one-shots in the universe of 'To Trust', featuring Harry's first year and onward.

First off, this verse was the reason I finally registeredso I could post comments! I poured over To Trust.
As for this one-shot, I especially like the multi-layered meaning of the title.
Having seen Fantastic Beasts movie, I kind of likened this Harry to the character of Credence. I generally don't like reading stories dealing with consequences of violence in which Harry is older, because I believe he would be too far gone by that point to accept that the world is not void of happiness. However, you've risen to the challenge.
In one of your A/N you mentioned suggestions for one-shots so here comes:
First year, Severus and Harry's first Christmas. Harry meeting Remus (since Sev is improving the recipe for the Wolfsbane). Aand I kind of expected to see more of 'The Talk' from To Trust. Namely, Severus mentioning knowing Lily (to imply what his role in the Potters' demise was might have been too much at that point for Harry to cope with, I admit). I'd like the continuation of the original verse one-shots, however, I like this very much.
My reading suggestions: Snape's Memories The Prisoners The Valour Visions of Sugarplums Danced In Their Heads
Thanks to James' sacrifice, Lord Voldemort is defeated. Lily barely survives and is rescued by Severus. Years later Harry struggles to live side by side with his hateful and unforgiving stepfather in a very troubled household. Unbeknownst to both much greater challenges lie ahead.
Takes Place: 0 - Before Harry is born, 0 - Pre Hogwarts (before Harry is 11), 1st summer before Hogwarts, 1st Year

Wow. This was unexpected-I kind of hoped for Lily to get better, if only marginally...I must admit that after reading about her drawing a black dog I thought you'll throw Sirius into the story, and that she'll eventually be able to provide an account of the events in Godric's Hollow.

This end fits the story perfectly, of course and I'd say even the canon universe down to a T. Adults didn't behave as they should've in Hary's case, although I see it as JK's means to an end- it really wouldn't make for an interesting read and the plot wouldn't develop in the directions it did if adults hindered Harry's adventures. It would take a completely different turn genre-wise, making it less 'light'. Conversely, HP subthemes aren't light at all, but with the adults taking a more proactive role, it would touch upon those themes a lot more. I do hope for a sequel because of the many things left unanswered, and again, with Lupin being there, hoping for Sirius to make an appearance.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed it! ^_^
Blaise probably couldn't expect much, this time. Blaise was a Death Eater's kid, raised by, if not always Death Eaters, at least not blood traitors. Molly Weasley's soul was so clean it squeaked. It was a good thing Blaise had Snape to fall back on, for awhile. Mrs. Weasley was just too...not a Death Eater. Way, way too not a Death Eater to want to keep Blaise for very long.

We'd like more soon. Pretty please? One suggestion; it would be good to mark different character's POV more distinctly. Maybe it's just me,but it took me a sec to realize that Arthur was the one talking about his boss. At first I thought Snape joined in.
