Desperate to escape his guilt and nightmares after the third task, Harry transforms into a hawk by accident and ends up breaking both wings and suffering partial memory loss. He is found by Snape, and while the professor nurses him back to health discovers the truth about Severus and who are really his friends and enemies at Hogwarts.

    Happy Birthday! Wow! I was wondering when the change was going to happen! It figures it would take something this horrendous to make Harry spontaneously turn back. What a great development! Now for Sev to deal with his sense of loss and feelings of betrayal. Not gonna be easy, I fear...

    Thank you! See, I told you it would be unexpected, he just wasn't ready to give up his freedom, and it took a catastrophe to remind him, like any teenager, of his priorities. 

    No, it won't poor Sev!  Poor Harry too when he gets through with him.

    You know we're dying here, waiting for the breakthrough between Harry and Severus! Worse, I had two more e-mail notices of updates...that were LIES! There was only this chapter, not two more, like I was teased to believe there were! I deleted them before I realized there was a "Report This" on 'em. Oooohhh--do please update soon! (And thanks for having given us this chapter!)

    Hey, Snapegirl, excellent chapter! Nice to see Severus being supportive of Harry's teaching efforts. One (multiple) spelling error, though: the class list is the "roll" (as in enroll).

    Hope our guys can find Dumbledore!

    Author's Response: Thanks, I fixed it.  My WP has this automatic corrector on it and sometimes it drives me crazy.  If it doesn;t recognize the way I've used a word, it substitutes one in its place.  It did that with another story, changing the word 'empath" to "empathy" repeatedly.  It did the same with this and I forgot to check it again after I posted it.  Dumbledore is incognito for right now.

Title: Chapter 5: The Secret That Harry Couldn't Bare 09 Nov 2009

    Quite an angsty chapter! It felt very good to finally have Harry spill his guts figuratively (after he spilled them literally) to Snape. It does seem rather an abrupt ending, though. If you wish to end the story here because your title seems to be the endpoint, that's fine. But the story does feel like you've stopped it where it feels like it should be taking off. Might I suggest a sequel? Think about it first, of course. Now that Harry has connected to his father, and Severus has discovered he has a son, a whole new world lies before them both. Whatever you decide as writer, it's up to you.

    One correction, offered with respect. In the paragraph beginning: "My whole life, has been a wasted lie," Harry finally managed to choke out, confusing Severus even more. What was he on about? Now that Harry was there sitting in his office crying, a CHORD was struck in him..." The saying is a musical analogy, like an important harmony being heard for the first time.

    Anyway, thanks for all your hard work. Good story.

    Author's Response: Yes, the musical analogy was what I was going for, but it was very late when I was writing and was apparently too tired to spell anything right.  Thanks for the help though.

    Absolutely delightful! I could nearly feel baby Harry squirming in my own arms as I read it! Only one small thing. Six lines up from the bottom, (beginning: “Headmaster Potter,” Severus sighed. “That’s all we need.”) The word 'different' gets followed by either "than" or "from", rather than 'to'. So the next line should be amended, as in: "Although it had to be admitted that there were times when a toddler in charge wouldn’t seem much different THAN (or FROM) Albus in charge." Other than that, a perfect little story! Thank you for all your work!
