Entry in the 2009 Challenge Fest. In response to the Snape in an Old Peoples' Home Challenge by preposterous purple crocodile.

Author's Response: Hi, thanks for reading! I'm glad you enjoy this sort of story--I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really love these sorts of mysteries and I'm glad you appreciate it too. Stayed tuned--there's more to come soon! Thanks for supporting my writing! -P.G.

I'm really interested in where you're going with this story so I hope there will be another chapter in the near future. Author's Response: You do? It is? Thanks! ^^ I'm very glad you like it - the next chapter will be up soon ^^
Author's Response: Those 'subtle' hinst are a lot less subtle in hte next chapter, believe me - but I'm glad you like the idea ^^ It's a pairing I rather liked and wanted to try it out ^^ I just hope more readers stick with it and give it a chance! There is also a lot more to come from Lily and Severus and just exactly what they did. I am glad you're enjoying the fic and thanks for the review ^^ AU of HBP. Harry found out that he was Snape’s son two years ago, and he’s carefully concealed it. But now Snape is his Defense teacher, and Draco Malfoy is up to something, and Dumbledore is dying, and the final battle is coming up, and everything is getting very, very complicated.

Author's Response: Thanks. I'm using a lot of the elements of the original Severitus challenge, of course, but I couldn't see Lily in this situation knowing everything that would happen. She especially couldn't have predicted Harry tearing Snape's letter up. I plan to update with one chapter a day when I can.
I like how you are blending it with some year six cannon as well. Author's Response: Thank you!
Severus gets promises out of Potter, then he gets them fulfilled! And somewhere in between, he gets a pet... It was supposed to be a oneshot, but it somehow ended as a multichaptered story (well, only three or four chapters, nothing big).

Author's Response: Hee hee! Thanks a lot. Mila Harry runs into Snape while trying to find the definition of home, and finds himself drawn into Snape's summer Order task by the headmaster, looking for a location outside of London. Along the way, he and Snape learn a few new definitions themselves.

I think what I really like is the way you've portrayed Harry. His state at fifteen is that kind of disorganised defiance that teen kids get up to generally harmless, but certainly pushing the boundaries. It's a risk taking stage of development so I think Harry trying to escape control and experiment with drugs and sexuality is to be expected, and summer is the perfect time for him to rebel. I think you've contrasted this stage interestingly with Harry's younger self, his uncertainty and introvertedness coming to the fore and really indicating the reasons for his older personality. I loved the my dad's death eater and the bogeymen has red eyes, nicely crafted. Snape is also very interesting, I like the more relaxed Snape you've presented us. He understands Harry's rebellion, because he lived it in his own way maybe, and probably knows how silly it is. I'm interested to see more of Snape's relationship with Dumbledore as well as Harry. I think your settings are written well too, I really got a feeling for the bustling high street shopping of Stockport and Amsterdam has been nothing but a delight to read. Personally, I feel your approach to swearing, drugs, sex and alcohol are all fine. Even if an individual doesn't personally they certainly couldn't accuse you of glorification of endorsement. Not to mention the position of drugs in society is not internationally equal, and is still open to debate. As for swearing in fic I'm never bothered by either its presence nor its absence as long and the author doesn't do this : F$@* which is assault on the eyes ^__^. Commit or commit not to I say. So excited to see the next part, I wish I could've held off reading this part so that wait would feel shorter.
I just think the setting has been worked so wonderfully. The house in Stockport is the exact kind of house that Harry would settle into and love. He wouldn't buy himself something overly fancy or large, he's not that kind of person. He's just starting to slip into Snape's house hold and I love every minute of it. I can't wait for the next part.
Author's Response: You know, I realised when I was writing this chapter that between my house and the cottage, we have fourteen different cribbage boards. :P And every time we show hesitation with quick math, the cribbage board is brought out.... |
