When Hogwarts plays host to students from Ms Cackle’s Academy, an exclusive, fee-paying private school, the worst nightmares of Gryffindor House are realised; kindly but stern Minerva McGonagall’s replacement is the draconian Miss Hardbroom, a woman who could be Snape’s twin sister! - Oh, I'm super excited about this fic! I don't know "The Worst Witch," but I do know I'm already enjoying the mix. You have a fantastic writing style, and I actually very much like your Harry. He's more mature than in the books, but I quite appreciate the view you're taking on it. Can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thanks for the review and the kind compliments. I always thought that Harry should have tried a bit harder with Snape after the Philosopher's Stone incident; Hermione, at least, would have had a huge guilt complex of accusing the man of such an enormity on such flimsy evidence (she set fire to the poor guy's legs!) and, given what we know of Hermione's personality, a likely reaction would have been to cut Snape a lot of slack and, moreover, to insist Harry did too. We know that Harry is the forgiving type (he cares about his relatives, albiet in a detached way, throughout the series) and giving Snape another chance seemed in character.
In the summer before Harry's second year, it's discovered that Lily didn't die, but was instead held prisoner for several years.

- I'm really enjoying this story so far! I like that you have the development here occurring rather carefully-- so often it's a rushed affair, as writers seem as eager as readers to get to the "juicy bits," not realizing they're only delicious if we're made to wait for them. Lovely pacing, a good writing style, and I enjoy the way Snape seems somewhat younger and stripped of his defenses, but you've not made him wholly un-Snapelike, either. Well portrayed. Also liking Lily and her development as a character. She's frequently presented rather flatly, but that's not the case here.
Lots of elements going on here, and plenty of intrigue! Can't wait for more.

As far as Harry knew, it was all some sort of experiment that only Dumbledore could understand. He had no idea that the cat he had been given to keep him company instead of Hedwig over the holidays before his 3rd year, was in fact, his hated Potions Master in disguise.
Because of the Azkaban escapee, Sirius Black, Severus is sent to stay with Harry during the entire summer, never making a sound nor leaving the boy's side. He could not speak, nor could he defend Harry against anyone other than the criminal on the loose, however Severus does something that no other adult in Harry's life had done before...he listened.

- Okay, I teared up. Five-year-old Harry really really got to me here. It is an often-done scene, but you wrote it with a simplicity and directness that actually got to my heart.

- Awesome. The language in this piece is sublime, as well as the pacing and characterizations. Although we love redeemed!Snape in this fandom, this take is so true to him and what could be. Painful and wonderful read.

- I am so hooked on this story, I can't even tell you. Throwing Snape into the mix with Umbridge and the Dursleys is one of my all-time favorite setups. You write very well, too, and I think you are keeping everyone in pretty good character. Can't WAIT for more!
Severus finds something about Harry, that Harry doesn't like about himself and is dead set on hiding it from everyone.

After a disastrous fifth-year Potions class with Potter, Severus discovers that Potter is being tortured by Umbridge. With Dumbledore evicted from Hogwarts, there’s little Severus can do to keep his oath to protect Potter. That is, until Severus is given the troubling news that Umbridge has given Potter another detention, thus compelling him to take Potter’s place.
