"Perhaps a man with a prerogative to redeem himself in the memory of the mother would, in turn, give comfort to a child so justifiably desperate for it,” Dumbledore grinned at the other man’s unbidden expression of shock. “But when said like that, it hardly encompasses the depth of emotion I would expect when I see the person in question has cradled Harry Potter to sleep after a nightmare.” “I-I...” Severus scowled. “I was not cradling him.”

I also like your Snape and his understated disapproval of the situation. I hope he can find a way to keep in touch with Harry, and maybe see him again. Great chapter, thanks for updating so quickly! Summary: The food and sweets at Hogwarts are plentiful, too plentiful in fact. What happens when Madame Poppy notices that the children are becoming too plump?

Great little story; I loved Snape's choice of "forbidden food", and Harry's ruminations on the quality of bacon. Although I do understand Pomfrey and her co-conspirators, to a degree... Hogwarts food *is* mostly grease and sugar, which would be quite a disaster with over-eating kids. I always wondered if they never serve salad or perhaps pasta instead of fatty meat dishes... oh well, enough rambling. Thanks for writing and posting, I really enjoyed it! “At least my dad wasn't a bully like you!” The moment the child shouted those words, something inside Severus snapped. Not a bully? James Potter not a bully?

Author's Response: Thank you! I've always imagined Snape to have an incredibly protective personality given the right motivation. Aftermath of Philosopher's Stone. An eleven-year-old boy killed a man and all they did was pat him on the head and send him off to bed. Severus finds himself put in the uncomfortable role of Father Confessor. Oneshot.

After an incident at the Dursley's, Harry finds he needs help. Will this be the catalyst for two unlikely characters forming a respectful relationship between one another, or are we kidding ourselves that one of the two can ever overcome his bitterness..

I think Harry had better tread lightly there... Snape's not going to be happy to be asked about Lily by the "Potter brat"! Great chapter, looking forward to more! Author's Response: Thanks for your review! I don't generally 'like' to steal, er borrow, other's works, even canon when it's word for word, but this was just too good a moment to mess too much with. I'm glad you could appreciate it in the context of this fic. (Now this comment makes more sense ;) ) Yes, I thought DD saying that to Snape about protecting Draco's soul was awful too. I see what he meant, but still, it must have stung a bit before he explained. And of course DD could be wrong... murder just might be murder from a soul's pov, no matter the justification. Quite a risk Severus is taking in that respect. Yup, Harry will need to be clever to get answers... it might just all be in the timing... ;) Thanks again. misundersnape...
Author's Response: Thank you, thank you! I'm glad to see you picked up on all those elements. That makes me happy. misundersnape...
Looking forward to more! Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review! The realism in this fic was the greatest focus, so I'm glad you felt I hit the mark. And yes, Vernon, whilst a horrid beast, did not mean to injure Harry. So whilst he momentarily felt shock and guilt, he very quickly buried it, swiftly falling into his nasty habit of blaming Harry for everything... even in this case when he was obviously culpable. More coming asap... Thanks again. misundersnape...
Poor Harry, he is torn between protecting his "family" and admitting to himself that things need to change. I hope Snape can get over his "Harry bloody Potter" attitude and help him... Looking forward to more! Author's Response: Thanks! I like how you phrased how Harry is torn between protecting his family, and admitting that he needs help to change things. I imagine that if it were anyone but the fearsome, potentially violent and dubiously loyaltied Snape that Harry would welcome intervention, but he's stuck with Snape and consequently he's too worried the man knows no boundaries. It's why he feared him at school, his behaviour and reactions have been unpredictable, or overly harsh and unfortunately Harry does not trust him to act appropriately. Mostly Harry wants the abuse/neglect by his relatives to stop, and to feel included and loved instead; he does not necessarily desire punishment for the Dursleys, which is what he's fearing Snape will do. Yes, I hear you about Severus' attitude toward Harry, it's frustrating that such an intelligent man gets so hung up on such a silly thing and can't see to it to treat a child as he should, irrelevant of the child's paternity. If I could get my hands on that man... *unintelligble, yet obviously dangerous threat grumbled* Thanks again. misundersnape... Every year Harry Potter writes a letter to his second son, who is growing up surrounded by friends and family, new and old. Ignores a good chunk of the epilogue, happy and light.

I loved the letters, and Albus' gradual change into a Severus. I like it that you gave him his very own talent that he can pursue without any intimidating role models. And the ending was great. Thanks for writing! In response to a challenge: During breakfast Hedwig delivers mail to Snape, much to Harry's confusion. Why is his owl delivering mail to Snape of all people?
