I'm quite impressed with everything from your writing style to characterization to the way you're maneuvering this plot into place. There have been more than a couple times in these few chapters that I've laughed out loud. I'm quite excited to read more (and quite pleased there's so much more to read)!
“Doing what right?” "Hugging. I only did it once before, when Mrs Weasley said goodbye to me and Ron at the station." /cryes buckets/ Seriously, that's so pathedic and sad and adorable all wrapped together. And now I want to give him a hug - and coming from me, that's saying quite a bit. As the clock strikes midnight on Harry Potter's fourteenth birthday, the reflection of a strange boy appears in Harry's window. What unusual news does he bring? And why does this stranger appear to be none other than Harry himself?

This story is fantastically written so far, and I have to be honest in saying I'm not sure at all what's going to happen next - and I LOVE that! I adore Harry and Shadow's interactions so far and cannot wait to see how it continues to effect him!!
Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...
NOTE: This story has a prologue. It is not necessary to the plot of the story, but if you wish to read it, it is called(predictably enough) 'Prologue to Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat' Takes Place: 1st Year - Snape flavour: None Tags: Alternate Universe, Slytherin!Harry, SuperPower! Really enjoying this story - clearly it's got some incredible potential with just the premise. And, while I'm not usually a fan of duel perspective chapters in the format you're using, it's incredibly well written - giving a unique view from both Harry and Snape fairly evenly. And now I return to not sleeping...
But, moreso, it makes me quite eager to see this tension dispelled. After a series of tests to discover why Harry's magic has become erratic, a secret is revealed, one hidden for over fifteen years. But not all secrets disappear without consequence, leaving Severus to learn that potions cannot heal everything.

Not a huge fan of Snape naming his kitten 'Fluffy' though. Very un-dungeon bat like...then again, you seem to be exploring different facets of these characters so I'll keep an open mind! Author's Response: Thanks! You have quite a bit of twists and turns to go, and I hope you like them. Severus' cat is named Flurry, not Fluffy. She's referred to as a fluffy cat which may have gotten you mixed up, and she has her own story that comes out a bit later.
Author's Response: Thanks! Severus' character travels a long road in this story and I hope you enjoy his character's progression.
Can't wait to see what's wrong with Harry. Eagerly reading more! Author's Response: Severus' character is starting to change so while it might seem out of character for canon, I hope it won't put you off. Thanks! Blood magic was supposed to keep Harry safe, but his relatives are expendable. Blood magic was supposed to keep Harry looking like his adoptive father, but it's wearing off. Blood is a bond, but so is the memory of hate -- or love.

At the same time, the amount of charicterization that you're accomplishing with Lupin - seeing him in a new light via his opinions, dialogue, reaction to Harry's relationship with Severus - makes him an extremely well written character that adds to the plot as a whole. Lupin's 'insight' into how Harry should handle Snape shows another facet of how things can be constrewed if only given certain facts. Harry's frustration with the same problem - with Lupin and other adults as a whole - makes this little bit of irony very well placed and written. |
