I like the idea of the story, and am sorry you decided not to continue it, but I just can't swallow Harry's reaction to Snape at the end. IMHO, harry's reaction would have been resignation and fear to be imprisoned with Snape - his cruel abuser - for an entire semester. That's just asking harry to kill himself at first opportunity. There wouldn't be hope. Way too much grooming for Harry to just believe "oops, Sorry Harry. I actually do love you and I'll never hurt you again".

I suppose, if you wanted these two to form a relationship, I would have had Severus sign the permission slip with the condition that Harry spend the summer with him.... with a therapist in residence. Harry needs time and space away from Snape and the Hell he's lived. He needs to get some confidence back as well as some good old fashioned anger for how he was treated.

I honestly couldn't read JA's story past the first few chapters. It was too cruel to stomach. In RL, there would be no reconciliation.

In an unlikely turn of events, a small multi-colored cat named Lightning Bolt brings two people together. Of course Harry's life isn't that simple so it's much more complicated than that. (In the process of being rewritten, October 2018)

LOL, I don't see why Ron and Hermione find it so hard to believe. I did chuckle at Ron's last line.

Author's Response: I felt kinda unsure about that line, I wasn't sure how to end it and I thought that might be a good place, it felt kinda off to me though, so it's nice to know someone likes it!

Six year old Harry Potter was running away. And this time, no body was going to stop him...

LOL, no parent is perfect and this is a totally realistic story of how Severus would screw up and how Harry would interpret his actions.

Harry, scarred from an attack by Ripper, enters the magical world and encounters none other than Professor Snape.
OOC warning because characters have developed/matured due to change in circumstances

A great start. I appreciate the you made Draco and Lucius a bit more complex than the typical one dimensional blood purists. Draco's slips were funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

Author's Response: Thanks, I like to try to allow characters to develop within the personality JKR has given them; Draco originally wanted Harry as a friend (no doubt due to Lucius) and Lucius knows how to choose- and court- his allies.

Draco's arrogance is off the chart, but he's so damn funny about it, it's hard to even be a little disparaging :-)

    Ollivander's insinuations were Gold!

Poor Harry. Yes, it's nice that he has a group of powerful people "protecting" him, but I get the sense that he's just a tool to them. Something to be used for their own ends. I don't get the sense that he'll have actual friends that care about him for him and not for what he can do for them.

But I guess it's better than the alternative and sad to say, that's life for a celebrity orphan.

    "Belt up Lupin"

I don't know why, but I always get a chuckle when I read someone saying this,

Harry has always wished for someone to care, for a family of his own. On his birthday, he finds out that a certain Potions Master is his father, but Severus has finally settled into life with his other son. Can Harry finally have the family he has longed for, or will he always be the unwanted one?

Whew! A lot of emotional upheaval for Harry in this chapter. Some positive but mostly negative. Poor Kid. Vernon showing up in the Library during the nightmare was the thing that really hit me the most. He fledgling sense of safety being violated. Voldemort really is good at psychological games isn't he?

Snape isn't perfect by any means so I can't really criticize, but if I were him, I'd put a kibosh on the "burden" language that is being bandied about and letting the implication that Harry is imposing on the "family" stand. Especially when Harry is sitting right there! Sure, Snape was more focused on the person speaking but I sort of think he should be thinking more about how these words affect Harry, not on the demands of the shrew. Snape sort of lent agreement with her sentiments by not disavowing them. He was just arguing that he decided not to go. It was a battle of wills when he should have seen her attempts to hurt Harry with her words. Finally, the last thing that really set's Harry apart is referring to him as "the boy" and not by his name along with Snape being "sir" to Harry and "dad" to Kieran.

I'm actually surprised that harry has even considered extending trust towards Severus. It's sort of a good sign, but also sort of a bad sign. Harry must be more broken than we thought for that to happen so quickly. It "helps" that he's in crisis right now and Snape is the only one there. But forcing trust can sometimes backfire since a lot of the reasons that distrust was present are skipped over. But again, bonds forged in crisis can be very strong. Time will tell.

Also the absence of anger when thinking about how Snape treated him in the past vs now is a bit surprising. Both in Potions and Occulemency. In five years, he never taught Harry how to properly dice an ingredient? He didn't give Harry instructions on what to do or how to do Occulmency? If Harry wasn't so exhausted, I think he might have the thought "why didn't you give me this book before? Why didn't you teach me how to properly prepare ingredients before?" Harry doesn't deliberately ignore instructions in his schoolwork in canon so my personal conclusion is that he wasn't taught...on purpose.

Reading between the lines, Snape set Harry up for failure in both by literally not teaching him, then condemning him for his failure.

That Harry doesn't even have a second of anger over this makes me believe Harry is worse off than depicted.

But then again, it's been quite a while since I read the beginning of this story, so I'm probably forgetting quite a bit of the ups and downs that have already played out. Forgive me if I have and ignore my comments.

"One of the incidents during Harry's time at Hogwarts causes him to become subject to a certain Hogwarts bylaw which requires him to be placed in another house."

A very creative idea, though if I were harry, I'd probably have quite a huge dose of resentment and bitterness towards the entire school. Especially the HOH Sprout. Even Gryffindor most likely.

A truly horrible thought occurred to Severus, if Petunia had failed to give her nephew the most basic necessities, what else had she withheld? Springfest 2016.

I liked this story because it didn't end with nice, tidy bow on a HEA box.

Severus did what he could. Unfortunately, he didn't really make anything better in a lasting way. That's the problem with well meaning adults: they do what they can to make themselves feel better but don't really ken the negative effect it will have on the child. Severus did this for himself, not for Harry. At least at first.

The Dursley's aren't going to change their behavior: in fact, they will probably get even more creative in their "neglect".

The supplies certainly did help harry in terms of confidence and knowing at least someone out there noticed his plight and tried to help.

Sadly, if Severus actually wanted to give harry lasting help, he should have told him how to sneak out, how to survive away from the dursleys, how to survive with the dursleys (bring food from hogwarts, give him a notice-me-not bracelet or a lock pick) how long he actually has to stay in the house to satisfy DD, how to order supplies he needs, how to negotiate with the Dursley's, etc. Survival skills.
