When Harry was hit by the killing curse, a horcrux was created. In this story, Harry is affected by the piece of Voldemort's soul inside his head in a more noticable way than in the books. Muggles, not knowing any better, decide he must be mentally ill. What effects might the treatment on a psychiatric ward have for the boy-who-lived and the wizarding world?

- Things are looking up for Harry - Ron has accepted that Harry likes Severus, and has his brothers working on getting Molly to see reason.
Being an ex-spy makes fatherhood difficult for Severus, and his son Harry knows this. Therefore, Harry has never been surprised that his father has talked so little of what happened during the first Wizarding War, a time when the Ministry of Magic still refused to believe he was acting on Dumbledore’s orders. It is a silence Severus has been able to keep without question, but when Harry discovers an old trunk of his father’s, he finds in it something Severus had never intended to see the light of day - a muggle war medal. No longer can Severus keep his past hidden, and no longer can he shelter his son from the reality of what happens when one war bleeds into another … the truth of where traitors go when Azkaban is full.

- Wow. Just wow. You have a real gift with storytelling in how you have written this chapter. The war pieces are horrific, but not so terrible as to make me stop reading. And then the part at the end with Harry is both tragic yet heartwarming.

- Wonderful chapter! I'm so happy that Severus found Lily's hidden treasure box with the invisibility cloak and photo album in it.
I'm impressed that a Hufflepuff, Miss Crandall, jumped on Draco first. It seems that Hufflepuffs like Severus.
I wonder if you will have something in the next chapters refuting Draco and his father's opinions of Severus.
I look forward to seeing where you take this.
I bet that the story of how Severus got his medal is as bad or even worse than the story of how he was sent to war in the first place.

Being sent to stay in a psychiatric ward at St. Mungo’s isn’t exactly the most enjoyable way to spend a summer, so naturally, Harry’s pretty angry when he finds out that’s his destination, regardless of whether or not it might be good for him. Facing a full summer of being cut off from the Order’s plans, Harry’s even taken to envying Snape, because at least Snape knows what is going on. But when Harry arrives at St. Mungo’s and discovers that a fire has changed his destination from the teen ward to the adult ward, everything is turned upside down. Enter his roommate - suicidal, depressed, and none other than Severus Snape. They are both willing to bet that their summer will be a total disaster, and maybe it will be, but even the surest of gamblers are not always right.

- Excellent work on the disjointed thought processes of Harry and Severus.
I'm not surprised that both Lupin and Dumbledore have good intentions towards Severus that they never carry through on: Remus, to thank him for the Wolfsbane; Albus, to lighten his workload.
I'm always in awe that Severus handled so many things all at once.
Author's Response: Yeah, it is a wonder Severus was able to hold up under the strain of all his duties in the books. I can't imagine - and the pressure too! - I'm amazed that Remus didn't know what was going on with Harry once he visited him.
I'm surprised that Albus managed to save Severus. He must be one heck of a strong old geezer! Heh, he's lucky Severus didn't poison himself, instead!

- Heh, all Dumbledore has to say is that he stashed Harry in the asylum to safety purposes. Severus then can say he did everything he could to get in there, to get to the boy.
If Severus can pull himself together, and blow off anyone's commenting as unimportant.
Heh, if he's creative, he can blame it on the animagus and the dog's "handler."

- I wonder what Harry's thinking now. As usual, he's glossed over the understanding Severus has had the same type of things happen to him, and would be supportive no matter what Harry admitted doing or thinking.
Let's hope Severus has a sixth sense for when Harry's about to do something epicly stupid.
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing! Yes, it is very difficult for Harry to comprehend someone empathising with him, so he continues to remain entirely too self-sufficient. And yes, Harry is about to do something 'epicly stupid' (I like the way you worded that :), and Snape is not going to be too pleased.
Harry Potter stolen away from his relatives house, and Draco Malfoy the only witness. There would be some explaining to do, if Severus managed to save the brat in time.
