    I hate Snape in this (though you do a great job at humanizing him, what with this Christie novels and all, he's still a git), but I love Harry and Hermione. Did you start this story before the seventh book appeared? I don't think Snape would call Lily a mudblood, ever, not even to insult Harry. But he's in-character for before book 7. I hope you'll continue the story, I really like your writing style, but I fear it is not terribly likely after more than ten years ...

    I love that bit! Very nice characterisation of Lily. Like Hermione, she'd see past the arguments of "but it's their choice", and to the heart of the matter, namely that nothing is truly a choice if someone never experienced another way of living (like house elves) or the "economic incitement [is] perhaps as compelling as a wand brandished in their face". It is sad that your version of Lily can never meet Hermione. They'd like each other.

    I love how Ron ends up having a brilliant idea without even meaning to!

    It's typical for him ... after all, he also was totally right about Tom Riddle murdering Myrtle. Even though he only wanted to joke.

    Knowing Snape, he will probably suspect them of cheating when their performance improves, but fortunately, it is not really possible to cheat in potion brewing, seeing as they are not only allowed but supposed to look into their books and at the blackboard while working.
