“What— What are you doing?” To his credit, he manages to pull the child to a full stop by yanking him back, bringing him in closer to hold his shoulders again and glare at him in the eyes, no matter the way he winces at their familiar colour. “You are aware that you have just undergone a panic attack, are you not?”
There’s something in Potter’s eyes that seems to flash at that, but it’s gone within the moment. Severus files that away for later ruminations.
“I know,” he says matter-of-factly, like he’s just declared that the sky is blue.

Comments: I'm gonna tell a funny little story. Whenever I have a panic attack it feels like my chest is so empty and full of helium, it's scary, I hate it. It means I have to sit alone and pick at my skin and wonder when my heart will stop beating like that. However, when people offer to help, even when they just sit next to me just to be there, my chest doesn't feel like helium, it's like a cold metal ball drops through and cuts through the cold air in my chest, dropping down to my stomach. It's a weird feeling. I don't know if I like it or not, but I know that someone is there with me and I'm not going to suffer through it alone. I got the metal feeling when I read this fic. I guess I saw myself in Harry.
The term continues on after Sirius' death, and Harry Potter is not okay. Wandering about aimlessly, Harry attempts to be who everyone wants him to be while slowly coming undone. Life has never been easy for The Boy Who Lived in the Cupboard Under the Stairs, but this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Will anybody notice that Harry Potter is breaking? Is there hope? Perhaps it will soon ring true that "not all who wander are lost."

Left with partial paralysis after being tortured by Voldemort, Severus is sent to Bell Point, a secure location on the seaside owned by the Order of the Phoenix.
