A new wizarding law, due to the prison's overpopulation, allows for prisoners of lesser crimes to be sent to live with wizarding families, and serve the remainder of their sentences as slaves, under house arrest. Lily petitions to have Snape come live with them after he's served almost a full year in Azkaban. This story starts three years into Severus' house arrest.
