WTF? So, someone hurt, then Obliviated him? Over a period of some hours, it appears. Can Snape recover Obliviated memories using some deep form of Legilimancy? Because this is really very strange and dangerous...

Oh, my! I found this again, after losing it for quite some time. Wonderful to see so many chapters since last fall! Um, but Harry did Not tell Severus about that predator! Does he really think he did, is he in that much denial, or avoidance, or was he lying intentioally? This really is a safety issur - that was no little act - that was really quite major, just a step before a true rape...

You know, at this point, I believe Dumbledore is more than a little Dark. He is not only not protecting Harry well enough, but he is also allowing a pederast to go free to continue to molest others. What that young man did was not the mistake of an innocent, who simply was attracted to and cared about, thus was sexually active with a fully consenting partner who happened to be underage, and close to his own age - These actions were in fact, fully intentional and those of a true predator... who has done damage, and will continue to do so, now, due to Dumbledore's lack of spine when it comes to protecting the young and innocent by putting away those who are a clear and present danger. Just because he is young, does not mean he needs 'another chance' or that this will 'ruin his life'. He is already set, as all the research supports - the only 'kind' thing to do - even for the predator, is to prevent re-offense, as he will most surely do so if left free. There are circumstances that allow for mitigation, and what happened here - was most Definitely Not that type of circumstance! The lives that that man has already, and will continue to ruin, as now ALL at least in shared part, Dumbledore's crimes as well! I have lost what little respect I had for this version of Dumbledore. I can no longer accept that he is doing his best to balance and address what he can against unknown other influences. That one went far beyond any acceptable ratinoal. It would take something extreme for him to regain any credibility as a true Light wizard - he simply does not belong in charge of a school of young children, if he is so cavalier in their protection!! Hmm, yes, this one truly touched a nerve and got a very intense emotional response from me!
Author's Response: Hi xikum -- thanks for the review! And I completely and totally agree with what you said here. 100 percent. This incident was me just taking a scenario that actually happened in canon, then shoving it backward a few years while changing a few of the particulars, but not Dumbles' reaction, so as to highlight the wrongness inherent in his particular (non)action. I mean, of course, Dumbles letting Sirius Black off with a warning for nearly murdering two people (Snape and Lupin) with his little "Go down the tunnel, Snivellous," stunt. Thank you for elucidating my thoughts on the matter. :-) --jharad17

By all the Gods! Vernon is actually both evil and insane, that he would try to / actually attempt to kill Harry, after all he has been warned and shown. He really Does Need to Die. Hs is not doing any good to the world, and in fact, a lot of evil, both with what we know he has done to Harry, and what he has taught his son to be. Wonder how many other children have been harmed, through that? If there is any hope for Petunia or Dudley, Vernon Needs to be dispatched... in a way that makes them re-evaluate their values. Snape showed more self-control than I could have, coming upon Vernon in the act of killing Harry - because that is exactly what he was in process of doing! If there is any justice in this, Vernon has gotten many times more than his full share of warnings - and he never acted with any civility or humanity to begin with - for Justice' sake --- take him out!

Poor Harry - learned helplessness! How are they going to fix that? And Snape - so sad, yet so very realistic, and he is being so very honest in his acceptance - his recognition of what is going on. BUt, oh, , how I wish that they can work it out, because relly, thow two could help each other so very much, could be so dear to one another. I sure hope Dumbledore has some very good ways to deal with Vernon - perhaps, feed his mind with the pain and anguish that creep has dealt to Harry, all his time with the Dursleys?

I'm all smiles now!!! o great to see Harry and Severus are coming to an understanding, even though it is in it's infancy, it is a much-needed change in tone. Severus is so right, about Harry needing to develop some trust in those who are to take care of him - as well, that he finally has caretakers who are themselves, good and reasonable! I am happy that both Severus and Dumbledore are taking part now, recognizing how deep Harry's need truly is - and are stepping up to take the responsibility - even if the actual day-to-day care appears to be relegated to Severus.
Excellent chapter!!

This fic is pretty amazing! And I am glad that you did not go all gory in your descriptions, just kept to what we truly needed to know to set the situation. You've written this mostly from Snape's POV, which is interesting, as you have shown us how he has been given things to re-evaluate and question. Now, the stage is set and I am very eager to see what will happen next!
Author's Response: Wow, thanks! I'm really glad you're enjoying it! I don't think I could write anything really gory--it was hard enough writing that violent scene as it was. I can hardly bear torture scenes, and prefer to sort skip over them and get on to the recovery, and hurt/comfort parts. Yes, so far the story has been mostly Snape's POV, which I felt was kind of necessary to get the points across that I wanted to in these first chapters. As the story goes on, I think it will become more through Harry's eyes, but I will alternate POV between the two of them.

Cool. This is the first time I ha d read the last few chapters. This is great - just got better and better as it went along! I heard someone say that there is a sequel??? Hope that was true - going in search of!!
Rather than allowing Harry to stay at Diagon Alley after he blew up Aunt Marge, the Ministry sends Harry back to the Dursleys. Harry returns to school after a terrible summer, to find that he's not the only one with this kind of secret. A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.

Hmm. No, I don't think they need to do anything much, unless the courts don't do enough...
