Post-Hogwarts Job: History of Magic Teacher - the first in a hundred years to make the subject interesting after Professor Binns finally moves on (he was only waiting for a competent replacement, you see). Later, the author of several books detailing the First and Second Voldemort Wars.

Favourite characters: Hermione. Harry. (I love Ron dearly, but he doesn't make the leap from well-liked to favourite). Sirius Black (and co. How can you not love the Marauders, minus Pettigrew and plus Lily Evans?). Severus Snape (I don't like him, necessarily, but he's one of my favourite characters to discuss and think about).

Status as an Author: Too chicken to post any fics... not even on fanfiction.net. That may change someday, however...

Status as a Beta: Would be more than happy to read over any works and provide constructive criticisms and grammatical help. Also willing to just discuss plot bunnies and ideas.

Voldemort is gone and Harry's relatives had no desire to keep Harry for long, so he was placed into an orphanage until he was adopted by a family. But when they pass away a few years later, he is placed into the custody of another who had just moved to Spinner's End. That is when Severus first saw the boy without even knowing who he was. The little boy, seven years old, who was always forgotten, uncared for and treated like filth. Severus watches this boy and sees a reflection of his own childhood. And when they meet, Severus vows to offer kindness where no one else does, in the form of a simple piece of food the boy lacked or a warm blanket for the cold days ahead. And when things get worst, he even offers shelter to the child the world had forgotten and cast aside.
The boy Severus now wants to save.

    You've chosen very American names for Harry's new classmates. Also, we know the names of a few students in Ginny's year - Colin Creevey (Gryffindor) Luna Lovegood (Ravenclaw), S. Fawcett (Hufflepuff) and Harper (Slytherin) - and you haven't used any of them.

    Also, I don't remember why Harry is a year younger in your story?

    Author's Response: In answer to your comments about the names, the canon classmates, and the fact Harry is a year younger...please see the edited end author's notes of chapter 20. Also, how do you know I haven't used any of them yet if you've only seen the train journey? I only showed a few of his classmates so far, though most are OC. :) Thanks for the review.

    Ginny is very perceptive, and much more understanding sometimes than Ron or Hermione. Perhaps you could let Harry talk to her - she could help him talk through his feelings after Snape offers Christmas? Help him accept?

    As for conflict, Harry is a boy who's never had any real parental figures in his life. Surely soon he'll start to feel smothered - Snape could ban him from something, Harry could explode (as he does) over this new overprotectiveness. He has always been looking out for himself, and I imagine it would be hard to adjust.

    Aww! This was a marvellous little plot bunny you had to play with, wasn't it? I like that you kept it all short now. Sometimes less is more, especially when you're creating a dystopia and everyone knows the original world so well. Nicely done with James especially, he was just as you'd expect him to be.

    Author's Response: I love this universe so much!  I'm glad you like James.  He really is both the hardest character to write, and my favorite.  It's dfficult to make him sympathetic, given that we know he was a bully, and we don't know all that much else, especially in this installment, where he uses the knowledge he gained bullying Snape to manipulate him.  I intend to show a bit more of the universe outside the Snape family home in the next installment, even though a great deal of the story thus far has been a family drama set against the backdrop of a dystopia (which isn't something you see a lot of, or at least I haven't) and i'm a little worried that I'll show too much.  Oh well.

Blaise probably couldn't expect much, this time. Blaise was a Death Eater's kid, raised by, if not always Death Eaters, at least not blood traitors. Molly Weasley's soul was so clean it squeaked. It was a good thing Blaise had Snape to fall back on, for awhile. Mrs. Weasley was just too...not a Death Eater. Way, way too not a Death Eater to want to keep Blaise for very long.

    This is exactly the kind of fic I love reading - and for once it's not Harry who's the frightened house elf! Presumably I subscribed to updates from you once upon a time, because I got an email this morning and here I am! Don't feel bad about "no sequels" - even Jo changed her mind (sort of) and if she can do it, you can certainly return to your fanfic! Poor Blaise though. He's only little, and Mrs Weasley would mother him to death if he'd only let her. Looking forward to the next update!
