Title: Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Things Are Looking Up

Lovely chapter... I particularly liked the interaction between Harry and Neville. And it's J.R.R. Tolkien who also has a birthday on January 3rd. :)
This is a really great story! I've just spent the last couple of hours catching up and I really like the complexity of the plot, and the way you are keeping Severus in character as the "mean git of the dungeons" and yet also, during private times, showing us the gentler, fatherly figure when he's alone with Harry.
And I think that in the end, he might just bite the bullet and assign Black as Harry's Godfather again--for Harry's sake. It will be fun to see if I'm right or not!
Well done!

And the plot thickens! I'm looking forward to more info about Karkaroff, and if he's really ready to break with the Deatheaters, or if he's looking to hoodwink Severus and Dumbledore...
I like the way you've fit the changes into canon, and I especially like how you wrote Harry's first meeting with Luna Lovegood. :) She'll be a good friend for him.
Hopefully Ron will come around, too, once he's actually stopped and thought about what Harry told him. I like how Neville has become part of Harry's new trio, too.
I'm wondering just what Draco's agenda is...
Please keep up the great work on this story. I'm always eager at the end of each chapter to see what happens next.
Well done!

School must come first, but I'll be waiting to see what the next chapter brings at the end of your semester. :)
Harry, Harry, Harry! If only you'd tell your friends that being physically touched hurts, then they'd back off. But they can't read your mind, so you need to TELL them!
Yes, I'm a tad frustrated with Harry right now, but I also understand why he was behaving that way. Guilt is a hard thing to handle anyway, but when it's self-inflicted, it is even more difficult to snap out of.
Snape, as always was wonderfully in character, even as he showed his compassion for Harry. I like it that you show his frustration when things get really aggravating, whether with his own decision, Harry's actions, Moody's insistence that he's untrustworthy, or Dumbledore's continuing monofocus on Harry as the only solution to the Voldemort problem.
I liked the wand part of the ceremony. I wanted to smack Dumbledore though, for dumping the burden on Harry once again. :P If Dumbledore is the only wizard that Moldy-Voldy fears, then why the heck isn't Dumbledore facing off to him instead of leaving it all to Harry? I certainly don't think that the prophecy is something set in stone. I swear that by the time I got done with HPHBP, I wanted to revive the Headmaster and ream him out for being a bloody coward. Ah, well... I won't waste your time with more of my rant. *wry grin*
I do like your story very much, and I'm glad that you were able to get the new chapter done. I look forward to the next chapter whenever you can fit writing for fun time into your busy schedule.
Well Done!

The conversation between Remus and Severus is absolutely AWESOME! I've been enjoying this fic so much all the way through thus far, but, IMO, this is the very best chapter so far. Well done!
Author's Response: Thanks! I really like to think of how all three of them (Sirius, Remus and Severus) could have matured enough to face these difficult events in their lives and talk about it to help each other get over them had things gone diferently. I'm glad you liked it too!

So nice to see how Harry's influence on Albus made him make a good decision regarding the Resurrection Stone. :)
I really wanted to slap Petunia!
Author's Response: Thanks! I really thought that even Dumbledore's choices would be different if he had someone, which I don't think he really did in canon. Everyone wants to slap Petunia! lol! But don't worry, Severus is going to get his sweet revenge.

This is absolutely the BEST fatherhood/guardian fic I have read on this site! I am just gobsmacked at the detail and how you interwove your AU into canon and made it all work!
I am so looking forward to reading the sequel, and seeing what happens to save Severus from Fudge's miscarriage of justice. :)
If I detailed all the things I love about this fic, I'd be typing for days!
This has been an impressive piece of creative extrapolation, and I'm so very glad that I discovered it. :)
WELL DONE!
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you had fun, which is the main goal here! I hope you enjoy the sequel and I loved all your reviews!
When Poppy has finally had enough, Hogwarts undergoes a drastic search and rescue procedure, and secrets are revealed. The aftermath finds Harry bare and exposed, and searching for something to hold.

Very nicely told!
I wanted to cheer at Poppy Pomfrey when she magically nailed Albus in the Great Hall. The description of that scene, including when Snape comforted her, was so very vivid that I could see it like a film in my mind as I read. Wonderfully done!
I also liked how you don't have Harry immediately losing his mannerisms, and coming to instant terms with his horrid past. Even knowing that he'd never go back to the Dursleys won't be enough to erase the damage that they did. Only time and care, which Severus is going to provide, will do that--a lot of both!
I liked the mental image of Severus sitting on the cushion on the floor by Harry, purposefully lower than Harry in order not to incite that fear response that comes from being loomed over. Candlelight, the sound of pages turning, and peace... :)
Very well done! It would be nice to see another story in this ficverse, about settling into his new home situation.
It was the start of his second year when Harry couldn't force his realization away any longer. He needed a father, even if it was a bad, uninterested father...he still needed one. So what motivated him to ask Severus Snape?

Oh I laughed out loud, cheered, and even wiped away a happy tear or two as I read this chapter. You could close up the story with this and it would be satisfying (but I'm really REALLY glad there's another chapter to come!). :)
I have come to look forward to the story alerts in my mailbox, and I'll be on tenterhooks until next week's chapter arrives.
Well done!
