Aww, Jacob is really sweet! I hope he won't have a hard time at Hogwarts. My nephew's name is Jacob too! Only we call him Jake for short.

If I had to guess, I'd say Slytherin or Hufflepuff.

    Great job!

Every year on Christmas, Harry wants to hear the story of how he arrived at Spinner's End... in a box.

    Hi,

Great story1 I love the part where Harry tried to decorate the cauldrons and snitches by himself and made a gigantic mess! It reminds me of the time my nephew was five and wanted to "help" daddy bake cookies while mom was at work. His dad got a call on his cell, went to answer it and left his son alone in the kitchen with the cookie dough in a bowl. It only took about five minutes for him to have the dough all over the kitchen--the counter, the floor, everywhere including on the cookie sheets! Of course, at that precise instant, my sister walks in the door. She almost DIED! When she asked her son what he was doing he told her "helping dad bake!" She said it looked more like helping dad wreck the kitchen! And she sure wished she had magic to clean up!

We still laugh over that one!

I think Petunia must have sent the package with baby Harry in it. How cruel! He must have either contracted hypothermia or suffocated from being in the box. I'm not sure who else would have done such a thing.

In a way, this story reminds me of my Away in a Manger, since a similar thing happened to Harry there.

How old is Harry in this story?

    Author's Response:

Hehe, kids can make such a mess in the kitchen! And Harry seems to be as gifted as your nephew in that department :)...

I LOVE your story Away in a Manger (and it's a shame that I never reviewed, actually)! It's such a wonderful tale about growing up - both for Severus and Harry. I'm sure my story was partly inspired by the beginning of AIAM, which I have read and re-read at least five or six times. I hope you don't mind!

Harry as a baby is eighteen months old; Harry in the backstory is six years old, and has lived with Severus for five years.

Thank you very much for reviewing!

That was a great story. Just what I needed to make me feel better after my sister's puppy dying last night.

Your Albus is as manipulative and idiotic as the one in the book. When I read that line where he says "Poor Petunia!" I wanted to spit! What a self-centered bitch, to do what she did and HE feels sorry for her?? What an idiot!

Snape was right, she should be made to suffer for what she did to her own flesh and blood. Sadly, there really are people like her in the world, and abandoned babies who end up much like the Harry in your story.

I'm so glad Sev rescued him and gave him the love of a family and a home and Harry gave him these things in return.

I'd like to see another small story in this universe when and if you have time. Maybe one where Petunia and her family get hers. Or whatever.

Wishing you a merry Christmas, if you celebrate it and a happy New Year!

    Author's Response:

I'm very sorry to hear about your sister's puppy!

Yes, Albus has a rather different outlook on things... sometimes very forgiving (perhaps overly so), and sometimes very harsh (I'm thinking of baby Voldemort in afterlife King's Cross...). Snape would definitely not share his views on Petunia, not after she had hurt his adoptive son.

I might do another story in this universe - it's very tempting to share some glimpses at Snape's parenting adventures! Thank you very much for reviewing, and happy holidays to you, too!

Aunt Petunia has another baby, this one a baby girl. When Uncle Vernon discovers her magical abilities he's furious and threatens her life. Fearing for her child, Petunia turns to Harry for help...forcing him to flee with his baby cousin, Ivy. What happens when Snape finds them?

This a great start, I love how protective Harry is of Ivy. I really hope Harry learns to trust Severus and Sev can help him care for Ivy. Harry's going to need it.

I feel bad for Petunia, is there any chance she might have survived?

Author's Response: read on to find out! thank you for reviewing!

I like Severus' family. I'm sure Isadora is as smart and skilled as her father. But God help any boys who try and go out with her!

I'd like to learn more about Brenna. Where did she come from and how Severus met her. Was she at Hogwarts, or did she come from somewhere else?

I had to laugh at Harry's irritation with the color scheme. I mean green and silver aren't just Slytherin colors, they're elegant and classy and belong in an old manor. Red and gold are for royalty and are pretentious, which I guess suits Gryffindor.

Harry is so sweet with Ivy! I'd like to see some more with her. Can't wait to see what Dumbledore says. Poor Petunia! Dudley's probably in shock.

    Great chapter, update soon!

I finished The Apothecary Knows Best and have posted it on here.

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much for the review, personally, I am a great fan of yours (Lady Destiny speaking) and we're really glad you reviewed!

And funny that you say you're curious about Brenna, because she is most definitely coming up in the next chapter and you'll hear a lot more about their history.

And Harry is a Gryffindor through and through (though he does have hints of Slytherin that may or may not show up as we progress through) ;)

I'm eager to finish reading The Apothecary Knows Best, please continue to read and review!

I liked the past relationship between Severus and Brenna, it was interesting. I think harry and Ivy are lucky to be living with them. I hope next chapter we can meet Sev's daughter.

I'm going to read Lost Treasures as soon as I have time!

    Author's Response:

You read our mind haha. We're planning on introducing Isadoar soon....hopefully things will go the way we want to! Thanks for the review!

And I'm sure slytherensangel26 will be very happy to hear that!

Great chapter! I liked especially Snape's inner monologue and also Harry's total disregard of the fact that rules exist to protect him.

I think of Sev's apartment as a studio type, with a few partitions here and there for privacy. It would have nice reserved decor, nothing too flashy or loud. Doesn't necessarily HAVE to be black or green, could be gray or neutral tones, or even cobalt blue in different rooms. I see him as having sort of old style furniture, nothing too retro or modern. Like those space age chairs that look like they came out of the Jetsons. I also think the furniture would be comfortable, not too rigid or hard, who wants furniture they can't sit on? It might even have a TV and DVD player. Maybe a fireplace, don't know if it would be considered a fire hazard. I could also see some fine art peices scattered about, like maybe a vase or some prints, a pair of bookends or a statue on display.

I'd say that the American teachers don't automatically favor the Gryffs and give the Slytherins the benefit of the doubt. Also they appreciate those who follow rules rather than break them, which a lot of the Gryffs have a tendency to do for no apparent reason then they feel like it. The Americans also trust Severus and that alone would give your average Gryff fits. That Snape is to be admired for his strictness--oh horrors!

    Author's Response:

First off, thank you!  I'm always pleased to have a review from you! ~_^

    *Reads over the description*

There is an irony in your description and mine that you will discover when the next chapter comes out that I think you'll enjoy.  I love your idea for furniture, so I'll be taking that into consideration.

I also love your idea for the teachers and think I'll have some fun with this.

Thank you again for your review and for participating in "descript Sev's room" and "What in the world did the Americans do."

Yes, I agree with you. It's easy for adolescents to see the world as black and white, very easy. That's what causes half the drama and fights among them, because they can't or won't see others' POV, only their own.

Here. harry is refusing to listen to what Severus tells him. He's refusing to see that Sev has a valid point here--why should he like or even attempt to like someone who thinks he's scum and nothing--no sacrifice, no atonement, will ever be good enough to change it? Why is Sirius good when he feels no guilt over trying to kill Severus?

No guilt to me equals no conscience. And those with no consciences are very dangerous people. because they can kill and justify it to themselves and never look back. Half the massacres and atrocities committed were by those who felt no remorse or guilt over murder.

It's why I've never really liked Sirius in the books because he never admitted he was in the wrong to try and kill Severus.

Severus, however, did admit to his mistakes and tried to make amends, in fact he died trying.

In this story, yes, I feel bad that it's over between them, but I feel the fault is more Harry's than Severus, since Harry thinks he can force Severus to call Sirius a good person.

Severus has his reasons for disliking the other man, and Harry should be mature enough to realize that you don't have to like someone in order to work with them. How about him and Draco?

    Good story!

have you seen my latest collaberation yet with LeeRoy on here? It's called UnVeiled. If you wouldn't mind reading it, I'd be very happy!

    Author's Response:

They do, don't they.  I was watching some today and witnessing how odd they are with their narrow view.  Luckily no fighting, but it was amusing how much they disliked being told to be quiet during a presentation.  Plus they continuously talk even after shushing at the others.  (*sighs* so cute and yet so... well teen-like)

Yeppers.  Sev has a very valid point.  Why should he forgive Sirius when Sirius doesn't even admit that he has done something wrong.  I'm tempted to make a second story where Harry gets that knocked into his head.  I tried so hard to respect Paddyandmoony's challenge, but I couldn't do it.  James perhaps became a better person.  Big perhaps, because all we hear about him comes from sources that were continously praising his behavior at school.  I'm willing to attempt to give him the benefit of the doubt.  Sirius on the other hand.... I don't know if it was Azkaban or just Black craziness in general but, your right, there is an almost soulless quality to him at times; like he doesn't realize what he is doing is wrong because it benefits him.  (Oddly, in my head I've compared him to his cousin Bellatrix occassionally.  They both have a crazy, but it manifests in different ways.)

Really?  I'm surprised.  He always seems so good in your stories or at least a little bit redeemable.

Severus really did attempt to make amends.  Granted maybe not for the best reasons at first, but he tried.  However I can see him believing that he was going to burn for what he did.  He seems to feel emotions really deeply despite not showing them on the outside.

I agree it's mostly Harry's fault that its over (and that's only in Harry's mind. You know once Sev loves and cares, he cares... always) and again tempted to have some events that... force him to realize what you have said to me.  Any suggestions, oh queen of stories?

Thank you, that means a lot coming from you!

I haven't read it yet.  I'm planning on it eventually.  I usually shy away from reverse stories, especially ones with Sirius... however I might make an exception.

     *grins*

Thank you again for the review, it means a lot!

You're welcome, it was my pleasure!

When I write Sirius in my stories, it's usually with him coming to a realization he never did in the books--that Snape wasn't evil and he treated Severus meanly and unfairly, and that's the big difference between my Sirius and canon Sirius, who never admitted he was wrong about Severus.

For an idea to make Harry realize he was mistaken:

I noticed that Harry accuses Severus of starting the problems with the Marauders, but I think he needs to go back and take a look at Snape's memories again, because he's wrong. Sirius and James were the ones who started with Severus and Lily by barging into their compartment and into a private conversation as well, with James making disparaging comments about Slytherins and Sirius giving Sev that terrible name.

Secondly, perhaps someone, maybe Hermione, could then ask Harry if HE would ever forgive Dudley for doing what HE did to Harry? I don't see Harry cozying up and inviting his good old cousin to Sunday dinner and a few drinks at the pub, do you? Or Harry and Ginny taking the kids to visit Dudley and the folks, in the interests of lets all be friends and forget how they used to treat Harry like a slave.

So . . . maybe Harry ought to think about that before he points a finger at Severus, hmm?

Harry might also think about the fact that Sirius would prefer not to have anything to do with Severus, and the feeling's mutual. He might even consider asking Sirius is he thinks SNAPE's a good person after all HE did for the light and see what his answer is.

I also think someone needs to remind Severus that just because he did terrible things doesn't mean he's going to burn in hell. The ones who do that are those who remain unrepentant about what they have done. Those who sincerely regret and repent of their wrongdoing are forgiven and go to heaven. Or at least that's what I was taught in Sunday school.

    Hope this helps a little!

    Author's Response:

You know I completely forgot that people could post more than one post to P&S for each chapter.  Imagine my surprise when I saw another review from you!  *grins*  Thanks.

Ah... now I see the difference.  I'll admit I still need to finish some of your stories where Sirius is in there a great deal because he reminded me too much of a person who abused a friend of mine.  (Avoidance issues much, right?  Too true.)  I particularly want to finish reading Two Hawks since the first story is one of my favorites.

I like the idea of him realizing that he is mistaken.  Hm..... I'm thinking Mione since I try to avoid thinking of Ginny as his wife, future wife, girlfriend etc....  Or maybe something a little more... spiritual. Maybe James or Lily.  I'm definitely going to include Sirius, but I fear that Harry would just agree with whatever Sirius says at this point because the view owuld be justified in his mind.  (And he thinks he's grown up?)

Dudly is an idea....   We'll have to see about that one.

Severus is going to need a strong reminder that he is not going to burn.  I remember that vividly from 4 years of sunday school and 12 years of Catholic school (go nuns!) that if you are willing to work for forgiveness the supreme being won't deny you.  It'll probably come into play.

     Thanks again for your help!

This was a great little story. It really shows how understanding and kind Severus can be, and he handled the poor girl brilliantly. I doubt if Dumbledore or McGonagall could have done half so well.

Back in their day, and in my mom's and grandma's, that time of the month was referred to as "the curse" and NOBODY really discussed it, except to tell a girl that when you got it, it made you a woman and it was painful and a nuisence. At that time, they had just started having the sex ed courses in school, but the stupid nurse taught us the reproductive system and failed to mention that there was blood when you got your period. Duh!

My mom told me nothing, I was lucky I had older sisters, one of whom was studying medicine. She told me everything. My poor grirlfriend wasn't so lucky, she got hers before me, her mom was away and she called me up hysterical, thinking she had cancer. I had to tell her over the phone what to do, we were 11, but it all worked out.

I could imagine the pureblood families being old fashioned like that, and leaving the poor kid to suffer through the first time alone. Stupid dolts!

I like how Harry finally realized the truth about Snape and let him know he was supposed to be Sorted into Slytherin. The only thing that surprised me a little was that Harry wasn't more embarrassed at what he saw. My brother grew up with all sisters, and even he would have been embarrassed at that age.

    Keep writing!
