Cheerio!

My name's Cicci, I'm a twenty year old college student majoring in Economics/Business. I'm in school constantly, busy with either homework, classes or the student association. I like to come home and unwind with a nice fanfic. That's why I'm here on P&S! I read a lot, review too little and write almost nothing at all.

Oh, this is almost to deep for me.
But as always, you write beautifully.

Author's Response: Thank you!  I'm writing sequels to this as we speak.

On the night of October 31st, when Voldemort showed up to kill Harry, he found that two of his Death Eaters were already there; traitors. That night left two boys orphaned and seeing no other option, Dumbledore placed both boys on the Dursley's doorstep. Draco and Harry grow up bonding as brothers for they're the only other person they've got to rely on. Come their year at Hogwarts, they're both sorted into Gryffindor. But Severus Snape watches them...will he be able to take them in when they need him; his godson and a boy that should have been his son?

I like this story a lot. I still don't really get WHY Draco was left at the Dursleys, but that might just be me being stupid.

I do think it's a little bit rushed, but since you said the plot doesn't really start until second years, it's okay.

And yeah, this chapter is common in fanfics, and I think it perhaps was very fast and a big change all suddenly, but you did a good job anyway.

    Keep writing, please!

    Author's Response:

    Cicci green,

Thanks. I doubt you're being stupid. It wasn't explained in detail, but it was basically because even though Snape was Draco's Godfather he was unable to take the boy in at the time, so Dumbledore sent Draco to stay with Harry as the boys already had a sort of connection back then and no one else could take him in at that time. Does that make it more clear?

Yes, I agree that it's a bit rushed, I disliked that factor but I agree..it's okay since the plot doesn't really start until second year. Well actually, the summer before second year. I tried to have the rescue more realistic for I do not believe that Snape would punish the Dursleys, or at the very least of not yet (since he had the boys to worry about and Azkaban wasn't appealing). Thanks! And I will.

    -Mel :)

What's in a name? The-boy-who-lived, prophesied defeater of the Dark Lord, son of the supremely intelligent Lily Evans and talented James Potter, Golden boy of Gryffindor, part-time punching bag and house elf of the Dursleys and the bane of Severus Snape's teaching career, Harry's used to labels. Who would want Harry when they can see instead whoever they like instead? Having never been entirely sure who he is makes him a little too open to suggestion though and unfortunately for him, Umbridge wants to banish his old list of names and create a new one of her own.
Beneath the names others have branded him with will anyone be able to find Harry?

    THANK you for updating! :D
I like how the plot's speeding up, and this chapter was rather interesting. It might just be me, but it seems that the writing gets a little more 'confused' (not as detailed or clear) whenever Harry feels worse. I might be reading too much into it though.

I like your Snape, I feel he is in character and acting the way Snape would. I'm a bit confused as to how many detentions Harry was supposed to have with Umbridge and Snape and not entirely sure about the timeline. Where are we in the school year and how much time has passed from the first chapter?

Anyways, sorry for rambling. I love it and you do a great job!

    Author's Response:

Hehe thank YOU for reading and reviewing ^-^, it is about time I got to the nicer parts isn’t it ^^ And I’m glad you did pick it up, I tried to make the writing reflect his state of mind and I think I’ve done it a few times over past chapters too.  I think the plots lends itself to that and it would be harder not to in the end.

Hehe everytime someone says my Snape is still in character it lightens my heart, I’m always worried I’ll suddenly write something to the effect of ‘and then Sevvy danced into the Great Hall’ and not realise I’ve done it ^^ High strung characters make me nervous because you can’t just let the writing get away from you, you know? So thank you!!! *hands you muffin and a point or two* ^^

And I do seem to have explored everything in so much detail (prattled on ^^) to the extent that you’re probably not the only one who doesn’t know the day in this fic anymore ^-^ - at the end of chapter 12 we’re on Wednesday night and both Snape and Umbridge gave him detentions for a week... that won’t be so important by next chapter because it all unravels then ^^ as for the school year, it’s before Christmas but long enough after getting back to school that Harry knows all about the blood quill... beyond that I suppose I just got lazy but I’ll have to fix that soon too ^-^

And I love rambling (can you tell? ^-^) feel free to leave lots of rambling reviews in future, and thanks ^-^

Goodness, I'd completely forgotten about this story.
And then you updated JUST as I needed some good heart-wrenching angst.

A very good chapter, all and all. I reread the entire story and realized how well you built up the plot. A usual problem with these sorts of stories is that they are too fast-paced. The author simply wants to get to the revelation part as quickly as possible. While that works in some cases (The Guiltless comes to mind), it requires writing skills au extrodinarie!

Now you have managed to write a good, balanced, developed plot and combined it with excellent writing skills. It's emotional, graphic, makes you weep and scream and basically everything one could want out of a angsty story.

I'm still wondering at Dumbledore's actions, if he knew and what he knew. The change seemed rather sudden in this chapter, but I'm guessing the explanation will come in a later chapter?

I'm also looking forward to a more in depth look at Umbridge's motives. Is she just crazy or is there some logic in her actions?

Pleaes write more, SOON, I can't wait.

    Cicci

Author's Response: I know, I always leave it faaaar too long :’( very sorry about that (sorry and scared about how the ninjas will react... you never know...)Very glad that my timing was so good last time though, I hope I can do that again ^^Oh I know, isn’t The Guiltless just fantastic?!! That was one of the first truly excellent Harry-whump fics I read and it’s just sp brilliant... not to mention the pacing is perfect, like really perfect... haha compared to that I’m taking my sweet time to get to everything aren’t I? ^^ Wow, thank you so much for such lovely words!!  Some expkanation will come in the next chapter about Dumble’s actions but he’ll wait to talk Harry through it a bit more (you know, when he’s conscious ^^) and there is a little logic to Umbridge but for the most case there’s just too many layers to her madness for her to know much of anything... as her total recklessness in front of Dumbledore kind of proves ^^Thanks so much and sorry for the wait!

Harry Potter starts Hogwarts with high hopes of finding himself a real family, and holds tightly to this hope despite the torture his new Potion's Master seems intent on putting him through. Can Harry's hope hold out long enough to see his dream through?

    oh, good job.
I haven't seen this challenge before, but you've done a wonderful job so far.
Harry is cute and I feel sorry for him. Mean evil Snape.

Please to rush this too much, since Snape is so unpleasant it'd be so weird if he became nice over night, you know?

I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

I finally read this and it's awesome.
And I'm assuming Harry is dyslexic? I'm guessing they haven't gotten that far in the Wizarding world yet, based on Lily and Sev's lack of understanding.

Author's Response: Thank you, Cicci Green. I'm very happy you like it! :)

I quite like it, I usually don't like female-Harrys. But you write in a very soothing way, elegant even, and it works. I was a bit doubtful about the name Silence (it could so easily be a Mary-Sue name) but here it fits. I also think Silence is a good female version of Harry, he sort of shines through, even though we don't really know very much about her yet. I'm assuming that'll come.

About the "flashback-poems"... I like them, well-written and so on. I'm not really sure if they actually fit in the story as it is now. They give it more of a children's book/Doctor Seuss -feel, and the rest of it's written in a more "serious story"-way, if that makes sense. But then again, I like the poems, and it's a quick, smart way to get some background-info out of the way. Like a greek chorus, almost.

But does it really fit in with the rest of the story and the tone of it? I'm not sure.

All and all, please keep writing, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter.

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much! Your review is wonderful!

The name took me a long time to decide... I intially was going to go with Natalie but for some reason... it didn't sound right to me. And then I thought of Snape's favorite phrase: "Silence Potter!" :P And well, Silence Dogood was a name so... yeah. It just sounded right, and worked for the character.

How about a Fairy Tale type feel? That was what I was going for with the back-flashes. Kinda mix of poetic, purple prose, and ambiguity. I'll see if I can't get them to fit a little more with the story though, make them a little more "serious".

Thank you again, I hope that the next chapter won't disappoint you!

An intriguing concept, to be sure!

And of course, I really really don't trust the Dursleys to remain all nice and calm.

It was nice to see Dudley acting a bit like a normal boy, I hope he's not beyond redemption in this story.

I do hope you make this all angsty and lovely like your other stories!

Hello fellow Swede! (I didn't know there were others here!)

I have to say, I absolutely adore this story. I generally dislike stories where Snape has another child because they tend to make Snape totally out of character; a tender, romantic family man which he's really not.
But you manage the balance of keeping him in character without making him a bad father to Ian. Very very nice.

Being a horrible h/c junkie I really think you should make the abuse slightly more important than you seem to intend. Maybe Snape doesn't need to immediately change his relationship with Harry when finding out but it will affect Harry in many different ways and I think that should be emphasized.

All and all, a GREAT story.

When a potions accident has some interesting consequences, Harry is forced to spend the Christmas holidays in the dungeons with his least-favorite teacher. Snape is, of course, furious with the situation, but he soon learns that when it comes to Harry Potter, not everything is as it seems.
