Good chapter, I had already been looking forward to it! But cruel: cruel of you to stop here (!) and cruel of Snape to ask Harry such a question! If I were Harry, I would answer that I would consider falling down a cliff, being sure of one's death and getting injured punishment enough! However, I somehow doubt that Snape would agree... poor Harry! Please update as soon as you can!

    Author's Response:

Yes, but Snape has never dealt with this kind of issue before. I agree it's ill advised--but he's making an effort not to turn into Tobias.

And he was actually sort of good about helping Harry with the nightmare. So I'd give him a B+, all things considered.

A 5-year-old Harry gets a new broom for his birthday and takes it on an unsupervised forbidden flight through the neighborhood. Master Healer Snape is not amused. A short story set in the NA universe

I couldn't believe that Snape would spank him in public, until I read that he had forgotten that the "audience" was there. Oh.
The interaction between Snape and Harry is really sweet. I think Harry acts as if he's older than five, though.

    Author's Response:

Thanks. Yes, Severus realized too late that the other kids were still there, otherwise he would have waited until they were alone before spanking Harry.  It was never his intention to embarrass his son like that.

Harry is a rather mature five-year-old, comes from hanging around Severus.

When Harry and his new, pretty neighbor are rescued from Privet Drive on the eve of a Death Eater attack, Severus becomes Harry's reluctant guardian and healer in the weeks following. Old prejudices are challenged as Harry's new friend casts her own spell over Hogwarts' Potions Master.

The Wicked WItch of the West, Gepetto and the Black Prince! This is such a good idea, loved it!

Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...

NOTE: This story has a prologue. It is not necessary to the plot of the story, but if you wish to read it, it is called(predictably enough) 'Prologue to Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat'

I love this story, above all I love Harry in it.
Snape is really putting in a lot of effort to keep his temper. I think he makes a mistake, though. He DID threaten Harry that he would hit him for greater infractions, and he knows that Harry is scared of it. So I think either he should admit to Harry that it had been an empty threat (if that's what it was, I'm not sure) or he should specify what Harry has to expect. With the way Harry keeps provoking him it even seems as if Harry tries to do just that - find out what would be the worst he can expect from Snape. Poor Harry keeps trembling whenever Snape gets near (and behind) him - possibly it even would have been better for him if Snape had gone ahead and punished him physically once (mildly of course), as mad as this may sound - this uncertainty is just horrible!

Author's Response: Yeah I totally agree. Snape should deal with the issue more directly - he's going for proving that he only punishes when Harry deserves it, but Harry needs to know what to expect. He gets more info every time he's in trouble, so he keeps acting out. (Well, that's part of the reason, anyway). Don't worry - he'll get it figured out. Maybe not right away, but he will.

Oh, good. Things are definitely looking brighter for Harry now, and Snape slowly manages to gain his trust. I really appreciate that you don't rush the change in their relationship!
"Severus cracked a grin of his own, and several students shivered." - I loved that line!

    Author's Response: LOL thanks!

A good chapter, again! My favourite part was the note that Ron and Harry exchanged in class and what Snape wrote upon it. "While you're passing notes, please advise Mr. Weasley that you both have detention with me this evening at 7:00." Well, "your" Snape definitely has a sense of humour! I'm looking forward to the next chapter and the detention.

Author's Response: :0) Yey!! Glad you like!! And yeah, Snape definitely has a sense of humor, albeit a quiet one. Heehee, good thing, too, right? Poor Snape.

    Brilliant chapter, as usually.
"And here I thought chemical warfare was a horror the wizarding world would never know." - I loved that!
And I liked how Harry actually came up with an experiment to see whether Snape would catch him, interesting idea!

Author's Response: :0) Yey!! Glad you liked!!

"He sat quietly while Snape conjured cups of water and a platter of meat pies." - To quote Hermione, Food is the first of the five Principle Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration...
Well, but this is your AU, so I won't complain... nice chapter, a bit short, though.

Author's Response: Thank you.  Yes, I know about Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, but this is an AU and I simply decided to ignore it.

Very intersting! I particularly liked the debate about admitting muggleborns. In fact, it was so close to how I always imagined this discussion (in fact, I have roughly planned a story where this discussion will also play an - albeit very marginal - role.
Sarah Trelawney-Dumbledore? What! Dumbledore is related to Trelwaney? That's a surprise! However, as Harry once was told, by Sirius I think, all pureblood families are somehow related, so why not...

    Author's Response:

Thank you!  Glad you liked the Founders' feelings and reasons.  I have read about them on other sites and it made me think about why they might feel as they did and what was going on in the muggle world at the time...it surely was very different from the present.

As for Dumble-dore and Trelawney, it's a very distant kinship by this point, but I kind of liked the idea and Sarah and her husband were supposed to be very clever and powerful as they created the spell that brought Harry and Severus through time.
