Harry met Holly when she was two - abandoned in the park by her mother. Unable to leave her alone, he stayed behind to keep her safe. Over the years, they became as inseparable as brother and sister.
When Harry found out he was a wizard, he was happy to find that Holly was a witch too, and one day, she would enter his new world with him.
Finding out he was a father to a nine-year-old girl, Severus Snape didn't hesitate to bring her home. His daughter belonged by his side, after all. Finding his daughter preferred Harry Potter over him was a travesty the Potions Master was not going to tolerate.
Somehow, Severus had to make his daughter see Harry Potter as he did - worthless, useless, hopeless.

- I just love how your story plays out against canon--a true parallel universe! But my heart aches already for Harry's impending grief (double grief, actually, when you include Cedric). And poor little Holly... And the plot thickens again, now that Severus knows he has a daughter. Waiting for the next awesome chapter! (Nope, no pressure... Nope! *snickers*)

- Whoa, Holly...! That was a killer line at the end! Loved all the character interactions among all the various groups of people. But the scene with Holly being driven away... Poor Holly, poor Harry... Soooo sad. 😞 But the visit to Tobias really made my eyebrows rise-- who would've thought Lucius could provide such excellent moral support??! I love to see how you put your own unique spin on all the characters, canon or non. Waiting eagerly for next chapter!

- Wow! Another killer ending! Holly certainly doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to confronting Severus... But I can understand her need for the truth; hopefully, seeing her father willing to own up to his past will prove to be the first step (albeit a baby step) to building a genuine relationship with him. (And gee... at age 9, I didn't even know what a sperm was, much less a donor!!! Obviously Jasmine's diatribe being quoted, but still!) // I would love to see the Order practicing their footwork with the skipping ropes! // And that mammoth shopping safari-- superb descriptions of how they reacted to the muggle way of doing things, not just to the merchandise itself. // As for McDonald's: I've boycotted the entire chain since 1989 after getting food poisoning. Man...
After his friends abandoned him last Christmas Harry learned to stand up for himself, and learned he had friends in more places than he had imagined. Now Harry’s finding it hard to forgive Molly and Sirius for the way he feels they abandoned him. - "...preferably when I am present so I can see the look on his face." 😆 Gotta love your way with Snape's unexpected sense of humor! But what I really relate to in this chapter (as will most readers) is the aftermath/fallout of broken-but-awkwardly-mended relationships. It's so difficult to regain what was previously taken for granted. As for Molly and Sirius... Well, I think Harry needs to have a one-to-one talk with each, sort of like Sirius suggested (despite his appearing to be obliviously dense as to WHY Harry doesn't want to write to him). Molly would understand, if only Harry gave her the opportunity (he's seriously behaving rudely after Molly did apologize) but I still think Sirius might get defensive, and THAT would be an interesting scene to watch play out.
When Harry was creeping around invisibly after curfew to take a bath with his golden egg, he never expected that he would wake up the next morning in the hospital wing with a charmed pet collar round his neck... But Moody had always been trigger-happy, and when Snape quite literally stumbled over Harry hexed into a staircase, the man wasn't exactly pleased to find him. Will Harry ever get him to take the charm off?

- Oh, man!!! Poor, poor Harry!!! And everyone else in earshot! Lovely descriptive details throughout! Especially loved the reindeer reference--great for the upcoming season! (btw, thanks for the "Marge" feedback!)
Author's Response: I must admit that one of my pleasures in life is torturing my fictional characters... and that reference is probably about as Christmassy as this story is going to get, because it wasn't written with the holiday season in mind. All my Christmas spirit is going into Shatter, this year, I suppose, so there is very little left over for this one :)

- Excellent details of Harry's disorientation as he tried to regain consciousness, flashing back to Privet Drive! It'll be interesting to see how the story develops, what Snape has in mind for Harry to prove that he will behave (as if!!!). I'd like more of a description of the cat collar charm--it seems to be a physical item (given that Harry wrenched at it), but size, shape, material, color(?), would be helpful. Also, if it's a charm, is magic involved? Great idea, but I think your audience would relish more details about how this contraption actually works. (...hoping Snape didn't employ some sort of magical choke collar to control our fave Gryffindor...)
Author's Response: Hi! Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your story 'Marge's Boyfriend'...and thank you for reviewing. The next chapter should have more details about the charm-- and yes, it is pretty much just an actual cat-collar with a jingly bell on it, except Harry can't remove it himself. I'm glad you prompted me on describing it more in the second chapter because I wrote that first chapter so long ago the image of it has just been in my head for ages, so thanks :)
They're stranded in the middle of nowhere, on the run, in the biting cold of a ceaseless winter. Severus has to make sure Potter survives.

- Excellent strategy to leave so much to our own imaginations... I kept dreading what Harry had seen, but you kept the focus on their immediate situation, cold, the need to keep warm, the need to divert Harry's attention from tragedy to the mundane to help him survive with his sanity intact. Very well done!
Author's Response: Yesss, Snape had the right idea. He knew Harry would spiral the moment he let his thoughts and the images get the better of him, and the cold WAS in fact posing more danger than Voldemort. thank you for reading!

- You present the Mirror as a concrete addiction in Harry's physical wellbeing, not just a psychological obsession. I'd never really thought about it like that, although Dumbledore had mentioned people wasting away... Very perceptive, and well done!
Holidays bring with them a mixed bag of emotions. For some, they bring joy. For others: sorrow. But avoiding them outright in a magical castle is nearly impossible.

- Wow! What atmosphere!! I could FEEL the cold in the dungeons! Nice revelation as Snape slowly discerned that Harry wasn't quite the boy he'd always presumed him to be. Also, very interesting introduction of the Fates through the three candles; now Harry has new ideas to occupy his holidays! A great form of distraction, to say the least. And if he doesn't get out and about... 😉 This could be the preamble to a longer story, if you're ever tempted to continue the storyline's development. Thanks!

- The latter part of this story had me laughing out loud! Hippopotamus, indeed! Very glad Snape finally started to see Harry past the end of Snape's own nose, but sorry Harry had to suffer so long, although a good part of that was his own fault. 😉 Well developed, not rushed, and optimistic ending. Nice!
