Author's Response: Lol, I hadn't considdered either of those possibilities. Rather than allowing Harry to stay at Diagon Alley after he blew up Aunt Marge, the Ministry sends Harry back to the Dursleys. Harry returns to school after a terrible summer, to find that he's not the only one with this kind of secret. A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.

Everyone said Harry was different, but what if the differences were more than just surviving the killing curse? What if Harry had Autism? How would the wizarding world react and adapt to The Boy Who Lived?

First impressions mean a lot, and once the teachers and American students have certain expectations, you get your mix of self-fulfilling prophecy and confirmation bias, making the Slytherins keep looking better, and the Gryffindors seem to be getting worse. And to the Gryffindors, aside from Hermione and Neville, to whom simply treating the Slytherins the same as everyone else would be seen as favoring them, *actually* liking them a bit better, well... Simply not considering the Slytherins evil, and being willing to talk to them, is enough to get you labelled "evil" yourself, to many Gryffindors. So...did I guess right? ;) Harry's a bit oblivious, but Ron's way, way worse. Boys tend to be like that, though, until they grow up a bit! Author's Response: I'm sure they don't and they are probably angry that people are telling them how they should act. You're right that they are not taking well to the Gryffindors' lack of ambition. The teachers are not pleased with the lackluster homework and neither are the students. You'll find out why a little later. Mingling? Other than with Luna and the DA have we ever truly seen the Gryffindors mingle? So you might be on to something. You're right about first impressions, it looks as if the Gryffs aren't making good impressions at all. I wonder what the American students think of the housing situation at Hogwarts. Must be odd for them to be supposedly banned from talking to people in their own country by "foreigners." Perhaps the Gryffs are headed towards a "tea party" of their own making. Very 18th century, no? We'll have to see. Ron is worse. Boys are boys and I know two who need to grow up. Thanks for your review! |
