"He shook his head again in denial and handed the note back. The two wizards had been acting like this for half the day now, the sun now making its way up to its zenith, midday upon the Hogwarts castle."
I just wanted to express my appreciation for this paragraph. I think it is just a brilliant, skillfully compact way of setting the scene. So much accomplished in so few words. I am envious!
AU. Just after midnight, in a hut on a rock in the sea, Harry Potter celebrated his eleventh birthday and, instead of Hagrid, was collected by Severus Snape to be brought into the world of magic. Mild abuse, neglect.

I really wanted to like this. I loved the way you described Snape's personality, but his abject stupidity is just breaking my willing suspension of disbelief too much.

Oh, man. I can't believe I didn't recognize Illidan from the description. That's so fucking badass, hahahhahha
I really gotta hand it to you, this is the only fanfic I can recall with such good OCs. Usually I can just barely tolerate them, but I actually miss a lot of the ones that have been left behind!
Severus was trying to brew a potion that could help him preserve the life of his loved ones, however when testing it on himself intending for it to just take off two years of his life it took off about...hmm...thirty.

I really want to like this story, but Harry is just... Really, really OOC. Some of the stuff he's doing is stuff just comes off as sickly-sweet if anyone other than somebody's mum is doing it.
When Dumbledore sees the welts upon Harry Potter, he removes him from his relative's care at once. His guardian for the summer is none other than Severus Snape. It is an unhappy arrangement-Snape is snarky and snide, making Harry do chores and never keeping him happy. But Harry realises that Snape is not as he seems. In fact, he is just what Harry had needed all along-a support. Warning: CP!

It is less that we are somehow "scared" of spanking and more that it is deeply, deeply hypocritical to portray corporal punishment as some sort of refuge from abuse. Particularly when Harry is repeatedly framed as being unreasonable for crying at the constant verbal abuse, continued physical abuse, and entirely unreasonable demands.
Even aside from that, the story is dreadfully uneventful. We've been through 7 chapters of this and it seems as though nothing at all has happened but a constant repetition of Snape yelling and Harry crying.

How underwhelming, to read so many chapters of a story about interpersonal psychological and trauma-related issues only to find the whole conflict swept away by magic rather than any of the difficult, natural psychological legwork. I do hope that there is enough drama between the two left to bear some of the hopes one has for a story like this through to the end.
Once upon a time a new headmaster dragged a young man in his charge back from the depths of darkness. Now, years later, another boy has turned up to school in poor shape and the Headmaster thinks it’s time for Severus Snape to pay forward what was once done for him, even if said Potions Master goes kicking and screaming all the way. Written for round two of the 2019 Tri-W tournament (even though it’s submitted late). If you like this story don't forget to go vote for it in Site News.

I'll never understand why so many people on here insist on scrambling relationships into nonsense in order to offload Severus and often others' sins onto different characters... Especially in a way that is so inelegant, transparent, and somewhat disturbing. (Severus was "forced" to use a racial slur? Seriously?) It is beyond irritating to deal with authors that can't actually stomach Snape and feel the need to retcon him into a bizarro version of the character we all come here to read about.
Author's Response: I can't for the life of me figure out where in this story I said that Severus was forced to use a racial slur. Your opinion is valued and appreciated, however just coming to flame an author helps no one. If you have constructive criticism with specific examples of what you found to be, 'inelegant, transparent, disturbing, scrambling relationships into nonsense and offloading sins onto different characters,' as well as how you would have preferred those instances to be changed or different, that would be helpful so growth as an author can be achieved and stories can become better forr eaders. Thanks for your review and have a wonderful day.

How disappointing for yet another evil!Albus story to go untagged. I really wish people would follow the rules. I wouldn't have read 4 chapters of this and gotten invested and then let down by a comical acanonical premise otherwise.
No one on Privet Drive was surprised when the priest came to deliver last rights to the boy, but who was the strange man with the long white beard accompanying him? “Cancer” was what Agnes from Number 2 thought it was. “An eating disorder” was what Mary of Number 3 believed it to be. Whatever the case may be, Harry Potter had been taken to the hospital many times and was seen to only be getting worse.

Oh, I am so happy I finally chose to read this! As woozy as the medical information gets me, I love biology based vampires deeply and am tremendously excited to dig into this.
Your story is so very lived-in. I love the cultural weight you have managed to imbue conversation of vampires with without falling into exposition. Hagrid's inclusion was just delightful. I felt special, forgetting for a moment that this wasn't canon Hagrid finally speaking on my favorite subject! And oh my gosh, the Weasleys! What a fantastic idea to bring one of the twins down to earth as a gateway to Harry being a friend of the family despite his Slytherin status. And it's so rare that we see the twins allowed to show intellect outside of pranking.
Thank you so much for sharing this story with us, I can't wait to dig deeper!
