I'm so sorry I didn't rate your story!  I'll do that now.

This story is so painful to read, and I rarely feel that way even in extremely angsty stories.  It's the juxtaposition of a strongly IC Snape, and this very fragile and fearful Harry.  As to Harry being OOC -- well, putting him in Slytherin automatically tells the reader that he's not strong enough and confident enough to object to the Sorting Hat.  What would it take for canon Harry to be like your Harry?  Probably not a lot.  Probably just a bit more abuse from the Dursleys -- not necessarily major physical abuse, just some.  Dumbledore in canon is right to be amazed at how Harry turned out.  Living in a home where the child is put in a closet for weeks at a time (Harry recalls at least one incidence of this in canon where he goes in while school is in session and doesn't get out until after summer holidays had started), combined with lack of decent nutrition, serious verbal and other emotional abuse, and general neglect, is more likely to produce a child closer to your Harry than to canon Harry.

So, basically what I'm saying is that your Harry may be OOC, but he still makes sense.

Author's Response: Thanks! I\'m so glad that you understand Harry here. I feel quite guilty about making him suffer so much and yet I can\'t imagine him reacting any other way either.

This chapter was not quite as emotionally painful to read, which was good.  I, at least, needed a bit of a break.  Something about the way you write this Harry is very painful for me to read.  I mean that as a compliment.  The descriptions and Snape's recognition and realizations of what's going with Harry are particularly wrenching.  I do like the way you're very gradually changing Snape, even as he tries to deny it.

I'm curious about what you'll do about the canon of PS/SS.  Will Harry have any of the same experiences as in canon?  Will he be strong enough?  What about Hermione and Ron?  Just wondering if you plan to use much of canon.

    Author's Response:

Yes, some parts of canon will be worked in ... others will be ignored (for what I hope are good reasons). Hermione and Ron will be making bigger appearances later on but Harry\'s just a bit too unstable to deal well with them now.

Thanks for the review, I appreciate the feedback!

I hope you can update again especially quickly, because this was a great chapter that just begs for more.  Snape's bitterness is so strong, it colors his perceptions and makes him sometimes blind to what's really going on with Harry.  I'm looking forward to finding out what he does next.

Also, I like the way you show Harry having strong potions ability (which Snape seems unable to admit that he could have got from a parent).  And I like the way you show the difference in an intuitive ability in potions, and Hermione's "by the book" approach.

Author's Response: I\'m having quite a bit of fun playing with the Potions aspect of the story. It really fits, because of Snape\'s profession and because it\'s a good way for the two of them to bond, a way for Snape to separate Harry from his parents, and I don\'t think that my version of Harry would dislike potions. He\'s interested in them and wants to study them, because he likes them in and of themselves and because he wants Snape\'s approval.

I had another comment.  It seems like Snape has an adult version of a similar problem as Harry.  Harry reacts to certain "stimuli" in the way he learned to react growing up on Privet Drive.  Snape is doing something a bit similar, only from the perspective of an adult.  So when Harry asks Snape about his parents, Snape reacts as though someone is once again trying to injure him.

Perhaps that not where you meant to go with this, but it does seem to come out.

Author's Response: Exactly, it was a bit of a knee-jerk response that Snape didn\'t even think about.

    Once again, great chapter.

I know you said you started this as a one-shot (I think), but at this point, how far do you think you'd go?  Since you're getting into plot twists with Quirrell it sounds like you'll tackle the whole Philosopher's Stone book.  Which I think you could do with this Harry, given some growth in him.  And it would be very, very interesting to see Snape's perspective in that.

But if you want to do that, I think you'll have to expand the number of characters Harry relates with.  Another reviewer mentioned Dumbledore.  I agree that's an issue.  I can't help, but wonder how Dumbledore would relate to Harry in Slytherin, and particularly Harry having this degree of "damage" from his abusive home.  Personally, I'm not into "bad Dumbledore" perspectives, although he does seem biased toward Gryffindor.  On the other hand, there's a sense in which his primary bias in the books is toward Harry specifically, and Gryffindor as a result of that.
Anyway, will you bring Dumbledore into the story?

And then there's other students and Hagrid.  I guess what I'm really getting at is that even if you decided to take Harry through the events of PS/SS with a somewhat different mix of friends, he'd still need to expand the group of people he interacted with.  And of course that brings up Snape and how Snape is relating to Harry and how Snape would relate to others that might enter Harry's experiences, such as Dumbledore or other students.

I'm looking forward to see where you take this.  I like your writing.  Each chapter has been quite satisfying!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review, I really appreciate your opinion and I\'m glad that you\'re enjoying the story. You\'re quite right and Harry needs to start interacting with more students - the poor boy just hasn\'t been ready for it yet but Hermione\'s starting to get interested in him and I think that she\'ll be good for him. As far as Dumbledore goes - everyone is asking this, and yes he will eventually play a role - but he doesn\'t actually have that much interaction with Harry in the beginning part of the first book. It will come soon but I don\'t feel at all guilty about having left him out up until now.

Another good chapter.  Snape is so determined to not have any good motives for what he wants to do for Harry.  I love seeing all the excuses he gives himself.

    Author's Response:

He\'s good at excuses, isn\'t he? ... Well, we\'ll see how long he can keep it going.

Thanks for reviewing, I\'m glad you\'re enjoying the story.

Wow!  Excellent chapter.  You move the plot well forward, while pulling Snape into this growing commitment to Harry.  The hug and all its implications were so well done.  Thanks for updating this story!

I've been reading this elsewhere, but just wanted to say that in my opinion your writing gets better and better. Your Spinners End chapters recently have been excellent.

At the Dursleys the summer after Sirius' death, Voldemort sends werewolves to attack Harry. Taken to Grimmauld Place by his rescuer, Severus Snape, Harry devises a disastrous plan to rescue Sirius from the veil, resulting in his being transfigured into a baby. Snape is the only one who can brew the potion to restore him, and is the only one to realize that Harry still retains his 16 year-old-mind. Over the summer and the first two potions which restore him to age eleven, Harry begins to feel that Snape is the only one who understands and can protect him. Is he right or has his deaging muddled his thinking? AU story for 6th year.

Good chapter.  Ron and Hermione are ic.  I'm looking forward to how to have Harry and Snape relate now.  Will we get to the detention next chapter?
