About me:

Hi!  My name is Kirinin, and I've been writing fanfiction for over ten years, now.  My initial fandom was Ranma 1/2.  After having a lot of fun with this fandom for around five years, I decided to branch out.

My first completed Harry fic is Secret of Slytherin, which was initially on fanfiction-dot-net.  I have to say that writing and posting this story has been one of the most fun and interesting literary experiences I've had.  For one thing, the tale started off as a bedtime story, meant to be shared with someone verbally, so it had to have a certain cadence.  Then, when I initially posted it, the feedback was thoughtful and thorough - to the point that people brought up and argued issues I'd never even thought of.  Some or the reviews themselves are works of art, and I've met a lot of great people through their analyses of the story.

It's wonderful to be able to share SoS with a new fanfiction community here, and give the story some more life.  :)

Secret of Slytherin now has a sequel called Geas of Gryffindor.  While Severus and Harry are very important characters in that tale, they are no longer its sole focus, which is why I have chosen not to post it here.  Please check it out on fanfiction.net, or on Archive of Our Own, where I am posting Secret of Slytherin and Geas of Gryffindor under the same penname.

I tend to like many if not all of the canon characters in the HP Universe, and really dislike it when an author is willing to demonize one set of characters to make the others look better.  My favorite characters to mess with are the Trio, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape and Remus Lupin, but I'm willing to read anyone, so long as they're written thoughtfully.

As a final note, I tend to recommend stories I've enjoyed in my Author's Notes; I also have a C2 for Harry Potter fics on my fanfiction-dot-net account.  That is all.

It is a year after Voldemort's final defeat, and Severus Snape has found peace in his life. His quiet existence is disrupted when he receives an unexpected bequest. Truths that he has held for years are shattered and he learns that the Boy Who Lived is his son. Severus must learn to cope with that truth, and he must find and protect his son before it's too late for both of them.

"He was still shocked by the nerve of that chit, suggesting that his Harry was still alive, disturbing the quiet acceptance and tranquility that had cradled Severus. He had been safe, enclosed in a bubble of grief, separate from the rest of the world."

Perfect, perfect line. I thought there might be some sort of way that Hermione would search for Harry. She just doesn't seem the sort to give up so easily. Now that she has a blood relation, that should make things easier; provided she can talk Snape into giving her some of his blood, or whatever it is that the spell requires.

I did not mention this before, but it does appear that there is some very subtle chemistry here between Snape and Hermione, making me wonder if there is a pairing in their future. They seem to touch one another more often than before, although that could certainly be due to grief; and Snape mentions at least once or twice that she reminds him of Lily in some ways.

Snape had to know that nothing short of suicidal curiosity could have made Harry approach him, considering their horrible rapport up until that point. Poor Harry, though, knowing this and feeling unable to do anything about it!

As usual, you have earned my overwhelming respect as an author. Though it's not as good as yours, you should read my story sometime! ;)

In answer to the "Turnabout" challenge. Fudge doesn't take the chance after the disaster at the Triwizard Tournament and begins emergency procedures to protect the Wizarding World from the threat of Voldemort. No one thought a quarter of said community would be singled out altogther. AU set in GoF.

I love this story, saw in on ff-dot-net first.  I really, REALLY hope you continue.  It has so much promise!

Author's Response: I will ^_^ That\'s a guarantee ... when that\'ll happen ... well, it\'s unclear to say the least. What can I say? I\'m currently in a reading phase at the moment. It\'ll pass ... eventually. Thanks so much for your comments!

At the Dursleys the summer after Sirius' death, Voldemort sends werewolves to attack Harry. Taken to Grimmauld Place by his rescuer, Severus Snape, Harry devises a disastrous plan to rescue Sirius from the veil, resulting in his being transfigured into a baby. Snape is the only one who can brew the potion to restore him, and is the only one to realize that Harry still retains his 16 year-old-mind. Over the summer and the first two potions which restore him to age eleven, Harry begins to feel that Snape is the only one who understands and can protect him. Is he right or has his deaging muddled his thinking? AU story for 6th year.

Title: Chapter 1: Harry Birthday, Harry 10 Apr 2007

Hi! I realized I've read a lot of this fic and never reviewed it, despite it being on my favorites list. Well - time to remedy that. I've decided to start again from the beginning, since it's been awhile. You know, YLNO inspired me to write my first piece of HP fanfiction, too! ;)

I like Harry's personality so far - he's very canon. And you portray the Dursleys' neglect without going overboard; so many people can't seem to resist playing that for melodrama.

The scene of escape was particularly well-written.

I always liked the idea of a shade of Sirius haunting Harry... even though it's not the real thing. The only thing I would say about this chapter is that there are a smattering of grammatical and spelling errors throughout, which somewhat detracts from the general awesomeness. ;)

Title: Chapter 5: Baby Harry 10 Apr 2007

I love this chapter! Snape is awkward with baby Harry, which is part of what makes it so charming, but he is still willing to comfort him for the rest of the night. Snape isn't leaping to do whatever Harry wants, but is willing to provide what Harry needs when he needs it.

The depicition of the dream was chill-inducing, partially because you go from such a warm, fuzzy scene to one of such horror - it's quite a jolt.

The only thing I'd say is that it was better to get Mrs. Weasley out of the way via Ron's injury than the way you were doing it before - by marginalizing her importance to Harry. In canon, Mrs. Weasley is the closest to a mum that Harry has. It was kind of irritating when you made *her* kind of irritating in order to bring Harry closer to Snape. This is better.

Just the usual comments that I love your story - Harry's dependence on Snape is really sweet and well done, and their misunderstanding here at the end of the chapter is v. good. :)

Hmm. It seems OOC for Malfoy to turn to fisticuffs - I'm thinking of when he swore he was going to duel Harry but really just tricked him into being out at night and sicced Filch on him. It doesn't seem like his style of nasty.

However, if you were looking to show that Malfoy's evilness has stepped up a notch - or that his courage has - or both - you've picked a good way of showing it.

OCD-Defense-professor was a good idea. I am about to do a 5th-year rewrite and am coming up blank concerning new ways of reworking 'nasty'. In my opinion, Umbridge was pretty much the worst of the worst - you can't get much more evil than that, lack of DE associations or no.

The whole business with Snape is so miserable. I feel awful for Harry, but also bad for Snape...

Title: Chapter 17: Back to the Dursley's 11 Apr 2007
Reviewer: Kirinin (Signed)
This chapter was so horrific! The condition of the Dursleys and Harry's guilt is so well-played. And... it's true that if Harry weren't around, his relatives wouldn't have had this happen to them. That doesn't make it Harry's doing (because it wasn't his intent) but... it certainly does make for a lot of angst...
