Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...

NOTE: This story has a prologue. It is not necessary to the plot of the story, but if you wish to read it, it is called(predictably enough) 'Prologue to Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat'

    Great story. I feel sorry that Harry seems to care so little for himself, but I can sorta see why. No one had really cared about him for the first 10 years of his life (that he was with the Dursleys), so he has so sense of self-worth. He doesn't even know how to take things at face value, like the fact that Severus seems to truly care for him (hell, Sev doesn't even like to admit it!) but the thing is, his friends, his house-elf, and Severus truly do care for him. He will hopefully come to realize this before he has ruined the chances he has been given to have a family in his friends and Severus.

    Good story, Adah. It was nice to see that Snape at least had the kindness to give the son of his worst enemy a picture of Lily. The thing is, though, even though Harry is the son of James Potter, Snape never seems to realize that he is also the son of Lily Evans.

    You did a great job writing this, and I hope to see more stories from you soon.

    Only Seamus, I never really liked him so he was my choice to cut out and make room for Draco in Gryffindor. Although I really wanted to keep Neville, I also prefer Dean around as well since he is muggle-born. I have also only taken out events that may not have occured because of Draco, such as Harry getting on the Quidditch team first year. I removed Querill as well, hense no stone issues. :P.
