Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving and caring, but nine-year-old Harry Potter knows the Dursleys will do whatever they can to make him miserable. After a terrible day at primary school, he doesn’t expect the evening at Number Four, Privet Drive to be any better, but perhaps it’s not too late for something good to happen.…

Title: Chapter 1: A Place for Harry 24 Apr 2020

This was such a sweet fic. I love that it was from Harry’s perspective. There was just something so achingly lovely and vulnerable about that fact and you got the younger voice perfectly right. I liked that we couldn’t see into Snape’s mind yet we see clearly through Harry his evolution into caring about the boy, the more he finds wrong. It was a build up that left me breathless. Also how awesome that you chose Christmastime for this all to be happening. You paint a scene so beautifully (the dancing snowflakes under the yellow streetlights for example, and the shining tree glow off the presents...) and it was an almost necessary juxtaposition to what Harry lacked but wanted so much. A time for miracles ;) Great job!

Author's Response: thank you! I'm so honored that you loved this christmas time fic. I do know the beginning is a bit long but I'm glad you like younger Harry, I adore how he is at any age but there is something very endearing about little Harry just stoically trying to live his best life in a terrible place. and of course, Snape has to rescue him because Snape is awesome and Snape secretly cares about Harry's wellbeing. :)

From the top of the Astronomy Tower, the stars always look brighter. Funny, how Harry can’t seem to find them at all anymore.

Title: Chapter 1: From Grace 22 Apr 2020

Oh. My. Gosh. I am a happily weeping mess over here. I’ll be honest - I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced a “one-shot” that ever affected me this much, and I’ve been around since at least ‘05, so... I’ve read a lot. Like A LOT a lot! And this was just... all kinds of BEAUTIFUL. From the way you turn a phrase and string thoughts to the PERFECT characterizations (seriously - KUDOS on Snape, there are so few who manage to GET him like you!), I was entranced. This subject matter is a weighty one there’s no denying, but you did so tastefully and there was a very realistic lead up to Harry’s decision on the tower. I was a flailing mess when Snape appeared out of the shadows. And to think he’s been watching over Harry since he found out, knowing - but hoping he wouldn’t have to - intervene. I love the way he treats Harry, the way he is so unwaveringly THERE for him even despite his show of detachment. And then the way everything begins to subtly shift... he lets Harry in, and Harry lets him in. The careful journey to that point left me breathless with awe. I just LOVE the way you handled revelations like Harry’s home life and Snape’s past with Lily. This left me SO satisfied and I hope so much that you will not stop contributing such gems to the fandom. You have a great gift :) As a side note - what’s your handle on Ao3, and are there more HP stories there you haven’t posted here yet?

After the events at the Department of Mysteries in June—and all that came after—Harry finds himself once again stranded at Number Four Privet Drive. With only his own thoughts to keep him company, he takes to writing letters to the only person he thinks can help, if only he were still alive to do so.

As it turns out, though, sometimes help can arrive in even the most unexpected of forms too.

Title: Chapter 1: Where the Heart is 23 Apr 2020

Oooh, you do so love tugging on the heartstrings, don’t you? :) And you know what? You’re damn good at it. I love that this story dealt with similar things to “From Grace”, but went about it much differently and had different end results. Yet your characters were still as canon here as they were there. Takes a whoooole lotta talent to pull off something like that! I enjoyed this story just as much and I loved the premise of Harry writing letters, and Snape discovering what about, which slowly leads into the Dursley’s treatment, and trying to get Harry away from there... it unfolded so naturally. I still can’t get over how beautifully done it was that Snape didn’t ever “whisk him” away like many stories do. He gives Harry a choice - one that he struggles with. It’s very fitting given Harry’s age; where we are in the timeline. It also made Harry’s ultimate choice that much more meaningful. I got choked up about the “home” line! Ooh ooh and laughed pretty hard at Harry just talking out loud to the Order like “babysitting me must be so boring” trying to elicit a response and out swoops Snape xD Classic! Please please share more of your superb writing soon!

Death has shaped Harry’s life and at times the knowledge of that can be crushing. Snape finds him alone in the Forbidden Forest, struggling with his grief.

This story is beauty incarnate! First of all your descriptions of the snowy forest with its marriage of nature and magic were breathtaking. The way it’s so wet and dark and muddy fits Harry’s grief perfectly. Then the flower... like hope springing forth :) I love how Snape follows Harry but barely speaks, just lingers in the shadows... and when he does speak it is so meaningful. You captured both characters so well. Harry hating him... but also feeling like he is the only one who understands... it was RICH with depth. Please please write more you wonderful author you!

Author's Response: Hi angelmoon girl! thank you so much for your thoughtful review of my fic. I really like to write nature into my stories and probably tend to get metaphorical about it all :) I'm so happy you liked the fic! I have a few other HP fics on here and dabble in other fandoms as well under different pennames, but encouragement like this always helps me write so much better. thanks!

When Harry is attacked at school he feels like he's an entirely different person living in the shell of who he used to be. This is a story of trauma and Harry's fight towards recovery.

Ooh I have been loving this one. I can’t imagine there are many chapters left though, *cries*, but I am very much looking forward to Harry’s reveal to his friends. You did a great job with this. Tough tough subject matter, but I appreciate that it was never graphic and more was focused on Harry’s PTSD and recovery. Love the manner in which Harry was found. How he cling to Snape with the footsteps. Love love love that it’s McGonagall and Snape teaming up to shadow Harry everywhere and act as his protectors and confidantes. The scenes with him and Ron and Hermione are beautiful, them just being kids feels healing. I’m dying for more!

Harry thought having detention with Umbridge over his winter holidays were bad enough, but now his hand is infected, the other students and staff are getting far too deep into the Christmas spirit, and he really just wants to suffer alone.

This was a lovely story, and I liked how you blended two themes together, the quill and Christmas. Especially the gift from Snape being the removal of Umbridge!
